so here...I would ask that anyone interested in taking part in the project list themselves so I can see who wants to contribute, rather than filtering thru the discussion thread where we are talking ideas.

a few points:

-so far, the idea that I'm leaning towards and seems to have the most support is HELLBOY. he will be in a story where he is getting sucked thru/jumping thru dimensional portals taking him to various times, places, events.

-this is set up so YOU the artist or writer can have him run into whoever you want him to. it was suggested that in keeping a horror theme, he run across classic Universal monsters or some variations, or some other monster type stuff you would normally associate with HELLBOY.

-however, I will not be one to stomp on creativity. I don't care who you have him meet. Garfield? great. Scooby doo? fine. Dracula? go for it. Ron Perlman? THAT would be funny.

-all you will NEED to do, to have the story making some kind of sense, is have it open with Hellboy coming OUT of some kind of energy portal, and when done, he needs to go back into one so he can be deposited out wherever the next artist is gonna have him go.

- LEAVE YOUR NAME, WHO YOU WANT TO HAVE HIM MEET (unless you want it secret or something) and WHAT YOU ARE GONNA DO.
like...PENCIL?, INKS?, colors? are you gonna put words on it(letter it)? if you cant letter, maybe we have someone that can help. if you DO need help lettering, will you provide the script of whats being said of would you like a writer to script it for you?

-if you are a writer only and want to contribute, we need to see if we can find an artist for you or if you have one networked for yourself to help. I know this is a DW project, but seriously, bring in outside help if you want/need.

if this sounds like something you would like to do, please reply here with your interest, how much you think you want to do(how many pages, need a writer? etc etc etc..)

this is purely for FUN. so make it as fun as you want. BUT I DO want to see it thru to the end, so I'm taking it seriously and I hope everyone else will.
if all goes well, we will have a fun neat project to look back on.
that XMEN one we did back a while ago had 40 PAGES in issue 1 and like 25 or so in issue 2.

Looking forward to the FUN! I'm definitely all for HB and Scooby getting together and, perhaps, having Hellboy land in Sunnydale during his interdimensional travels, as well. Having him meet Ron Perlman as Vincent in Beauty and the Beast is now firmly bubbling in my mind, too, so count me in to plot/co-plot/write those three segments. Heck, if I can think of a way to do it, I'd love for him to encounter a certain Time Lord in a blue box, as well...

Concept: HELLBOY VS. HULK!

Hellboy follows a demon into the Marvel U and the demon possesses the most powerful being on earth... who turns out to be a skinny little scientist. Just as Hellboy thinks the exorcism is going to be a cakewalk puny Banner transforms...

Cue the epic music and the action scene.

Unknown to both of them, the demon was summoned to the Marvel U and led to Banner by Dormammu; who is observing the fight and waiting to see which one wins so he can come down and take out the other, allowing him to posses both the Hulk and the Right Hand of Doom.

I haven't thought up a conclusion yet but I see Hellboy defeating the Hulk through some mystical means, both of them getting captured, and later on both working together to escape imprisonment and stop Dormammu.

Since both characters know what it's like to be persecuted for being a monster, there will also be some character development where Banner makes some manner of peace with his other self, and Hellboy understands that even if he was able to transform into a human like Banner, he would still be feared for who he was and, as he leaves to go home, thanks the Hulk for this knowledge.

Hellboy is sitting enjoying a burger. When a portal opens on his wall...It's Spider-man,... Hellboy and Spidey eyeball each other, say something witty, portal opens on the other wall Spidey web-slings out the portal. Hellboy goes about finishing his burger, along with a comment.

I'm still in with my Hulk idea; a much shorter encounter - misunderstanding, fight scene, cooperation, reconciliation, the usual stuff of titanic team ups (maybe the hulk is in the middle of a fight with the abomination or something and Hellboy recognizes that out of the two, Jade Jaws is the one who isn't a monster, helps him out, leaves him with some advice, jumps through the portal to the encounter).

Well i dont think there nees to be a specific time frame. I want to get started on my opening part asap, but the holidays obviously factor in. That last group projects took 3-4 months from beggining to end.

As long as everyone understands the basic premise so all the stories flow together (HB exits a portal, and re-enters at the end) then i say yeah, people get started.
Id say for an end date..:lets figure last day of February to try and have it wrapped up.

He's also expecting the portal to show up and is ready for it. I figure we could put the two stories towards the end, which would explain why he's getting used to the situation a bit. Does that work?

And a suggestion about the name thing: Since every person/team is working on their own story, why not do a proper credits panel for each short, like they do in published anthologies? I named both my stories, too ("HELLBOY & HULK: MONSTERS", and "THE DEMON'S WHISPER"). I picked one splash panel in each and put the title and credits in. That way it's easy to keep track of who did what.

Maybe we could even do a proper Contents Page in the Beginning. Nothing fancy - just the title of each short and the name of the person/team that did it.

We can space out placement of the twins stories no problem. The portal hellboy is in is something he was forced into and cant control, but i did throw in a small element that he does that disrupts the randomness of the portal which leads indirectly to it sending him different places. So conceivably it could be less chaotic the more jumps he makes.

I pretty much use micron markers. 005 to 0.8. I was never good with brush inking. Inking in general is a challenge, I have a lot of respect for everyone that can do it.

These few panels look really nice, RobertS. Very solid work with some great dramatic angles and the splash page is really fantastic! Can’t wait to see more. Only one caveat:be sure to watch the size on his right Hand of Doom; from everything I’ve ever seen of HB, it’s usually pretty massive, henceforth the amount of damage it can incur and sustain.

Thanks jeffchris50, I actually find Hellboy hard to draw. I am not that familiar with him in comic form and when googling his image there are all sorts of variations on his look and since my style is very different from Mike Mignola's , I went with more the movie version - i will definitely take a look at the hand though and see if i can correct it.

Yes. I feel you. Is a tricky design. I think by the end of this exercise I will be able to understand Hellboy's construction at full. Body and face.
The good thing is that each artist who has drawn it made his own version of Hellboy. Even the own Mignola, he changes the design continously.
I went to find Mignola's sketches looking for accuracy. But these models are all different. From one to the other.
Finally I found some action figures online that are based on Mignolas originals that are more consistent and well defined. Right now, I'm using these as my reference.
Also, I want to remark, the most I'm knowing about Hellboy, the most fascinating I find this character.

I would like to also add that when you guys have your pages done, can you email them to ME so I can keep master files of everything ready to go in one spot?
by email or dropbox or whatever...I just want to be able to have it all together so it can be put together as a PDF or whatever if we decide.

Are you going to erase that info later on or cut off that info from the final PDF presentation?
I can give an extra size on the top of each page for that purpose as we see it on pre lined comics art boards.

umm..i don't know. never considered that. none of these made it as far as PDF format.

like I was saying, I just wanted to have it so each section was identifiable to a specific artist/team. several times with the xmen project, readers were asking WHO did specific pages and it became difficult to keep track.

I think a good solution is that as long as everyone puts like a story title box with credits on their page 1, that should be good enough I think.

or I'm open to suggestions...

also...historically, I have everyone email me their pages so I could keep them all in one place and upload them to where ever or just plain manage the thing. can we still do the same thing here?
I can put them all in a drop box file or something where we can have people access it to do the PDF thing.. or whatever.

If proper details are sent with every story we won't need signatures on every page. Use a format like this, for example:

And so on for Inks, Colors, Letters.

If there is more than one artist involved, it should be done the same -

that all makes perfect sense. as long as everyone at the very least puts their names on page 1 of their story, that works. and a credits page with all the info on it at the opening of the book, like the inside cover will do it as well.
so yeah...not exactly everyone signing every page... just identifiable somehow.
