KAMEELMAN
#3
A1 Oregon Publishing
T-Bone/Randall/Taylor
The "Low Fidelity" storyline wraps
up as Todd's true intentions are revealed, tricks are played, and
Zack gets some good news.
T-Bone does a decent job of capturing teen
behavior, although it's more "WB" and less what's really
going on next door. Still, he successfully juggles a large cast
and manages to differentiate the characters effectively. It's apparent
that Tiger holds a special place in T-Bone's heart, as she continues
to receive much attention.
Ron Randall's art has gotten better, if
that's possible - perhaps he and inker James Taylor have gotten
into the most comfortable groove. Despite being in black and white,
the pictures pop right off the page.
Astute readers may notice a parallel between
the teens at the pool party and Zack (the "Kameelman").
Some kids lie, some pretend to be something they're not, some mislead
- all things that Zack does himself when he uses his powers. I hope
T-Bone and crew continue to explore that issue.
The dialogue could benefit from tighter
editing (there's an epidemic of oddly placed quotation marks, for
instance), but the story moves right along. I just wish that the
ending didn't seem quite so obvious and inevitable. Still, KAMEELMAN
is a perfect book for fans looking for a bit less superheroics and
a little more "Dawson's Creek."
