Banner Questions

Hi, Folks

Does anyone know if there are standardized banner sizes? I've noticed some that seem standard, but who's to say

728 x 90
468 x 60
120 x 90 or 120 x 60
88 x 31

and I assume tower versions of the same. A little help, please? I find it all rather confusing.

Do a search for standard web banners.
There are several different sizes that include the button (88x31), square, rectangle and tower. Rectangle, button and tower are the most frequently used. Rectangle and Tower have 2 different standard sizes.

it's been my experience that 468x60 is your standard, followed by the 88x31 web button.

As for how, well, any graphics program, really. It's more about laying out the banner effectively than what program you do it in (since you're working in not only a much smaller space, but you need to grab attention quickly.)

I went with more of a "brightness" factor with mine (since so many pages, especially artists sites, have dark backgrounds):

It even involved making layout changes to my logo (since normally, the 'logic' sits below the 'frayed' part). But it's still recognizable as my logo. Just keep in mind that sometimes design has to take a backseat to viewability.

I'm getting the picture.

What programs do you guys use to set up your banners, and in what formats. I know how to make a gif with images that flash by, but that's about it.

I use Photoshop and ImageReady (which is packaged with Photoshop). I'm still using Photoshop 7.0.

I save everything as TIF or PSD for storage and all banners I convert to GIFs.

Actually the 468x60 has fallen to the side for the larger 728x90.

You can find all the current standards here: http://www.iab.net/

Any image program would work. It just depends how nice it to look. Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, or try GIMP for free. Heck, you could even use Paint.

I've got PS and Imageready, but I haven't figured out how to do all the pretty things like having pictures fade out, or move. Stuff like that. Suppose I'll have to dig up some online tutorials.
