Not bad, but not great either. A good inker is one whose inks actually enhances the original pencils, not taking away or remaining 100% dependant upon the Artist's interpretations. There are two artists in comic books, the Pencil Artist and the Inking Artist, one can make the other better, or make the other worse.
Your ink job takes away from the original drawing... in my honest opinion. |

Well, I don't think your inking takes away from the original drawing, Vandal, insofar as the original drawing is a little on the vague side. This, to me anyway, sort of stradles the fence between a finished pencil and a breakdown. There's still a lot of information that the penciler should have given you ( if this were a pro job ) before he would be justified in handing this off to be inked.
In light of that, if I were inking this, I would have taken it upon myself to give it a better sense of depth and vary the line weight a lot more than you have. Yes, you followed what he did, but there needs to be a lot more done here. He didn't do it, so it was up to you to bring more to the party, so to speak. I will give you marks though for an overall clean job. If I were the editor on this piece I would have told the penciler to punch it up a good deal more before accepting it. I think this one really deviates from your normal higher intensity inks, and you really really stuck to the pencils on it. The characters could be brought forward more with heavier lineweights and the hatching on this one actually should have been corrected in the inks in places like the cape on the guy in the upper right. Hatching and detail on some of the other characters' clothing and accessories seems flat or lost because there's no visible dynamics. The scarred guy on the right, his face completely lost dynamic definition in the inks. It really does need to be punched up a bit overall so that it pops instead of feeling flat. Clean though. The pencils stand fine on their own but there's so much more that should have been done in the inks.

I think i pretty much agree with the ppl above me in so much as that you stuck too much to the pencils. My thinking is that there seems to be an x in the top of the background (next to the mountain top). That together with oval slashed shaped in the smoke makes me think that maybe the artist could have been wanting some really deep shoadows in the background.
