Ink Mixture Recommendation???
Hey there! I was experimenting with ink mixtures last night and thumbing through my old Klaus Janson's DC inking book. I'm mixing Higgins and Koh-i-noor Rapidio Ink. Any other suggestions from all yuse inkers!! Thanks in advance. I'll also post in the artist sections...as long as I'm not breaking any DW rules by doing so!

You said "Higgins".... which one? If it's Black Magic.... I just take the top off of it and let it cure for two days or so. (the water evaporates off)... or if I don't have a couple of days... stick it in the microwave for about 20 seconds. (in a dish)
Regular Higgins..... well.... you could also try buying a block of sumi dried ink... and shave a couple of shavings into the higgins.... mix it up... and get some really great black ink. Be careful using regular higgins.....it's prone to smear after it ""dries"" because it's not wwaterproof. the skin in contact with it will pull it up sometimes. Also..... which kooh-i-noor are you using,..... there are a couple of different kinds. I tend to like my "dried" Black Magic... and for heavy, heavy intense graphfite on a page.. speedball is a must for blacks, if you have to erase over the pencils. |

Thanks Waki! I have Koh-i-noor 3080 waterproof and higgins waterproof. I'm looking for the blackest black I can get. Thanks for the help.

Ahhhh...you're using the Universal ink by Koh-I-noor right?? Good stuff. Works very well with Quills.
As for a Proper mixture, it depends on the person really. Mainly use Speedball right now, and have a huge bottle of the stuff on hand for refills. Dick Blick's "Black Cat" I've found to be very good too. Have the last bit put aside at the moment. Just find what works for you and go with it. |
