[Info] Writer Showcase Guidelines

I used to have guidelines in here a long time ago, but they were accidentally pruned a long while back. Everyone's been keeping it fairly civil around here and not abusing the forum too much, so I haven't really needed to repost them... but just to help keep things running smooth around here:
  1. Keep it civil. We're people. We're different from each other, and we have different views of the world. Sometimes, those viewpoints will conflict. Debating and discussing topics are fine. Disagreements are fine... as long as they don't get out of hand. If posts in a thread start to devolve into personal attacks, they will probably be deleted. I try my best to read through everything in here (well, I skim a lot), so if someone sees something getting out of hand in the forums, feel free to contact me and let me know.

  2. Inappropriate material. Read this announcement over here. I know I let things go a little beyond all ages over here in the writer showcase, but there are some limits. If it's pornographic or really heavy "R"/borderline "NC-17", it will probably wind up being deleted.

  3. Machine gun posting. Don't post multiple scripts at the same time. Let your first script post run for a couple days to help maximize its chance for feedback, and then you can post another script thread.

  4. Discussing the craft. The same principle about machine gun posting can be said for discussion threads. A couple threads discussing the craft of writing are fine... as long as one person doesn't post a lot of them at one time. Open a discussion, let it run for a day or so to let people contribute, and if it looks like it's run its course, you can start another discussion. I don't mind people actively discussing the craft (I encourage it), but if there are too many at once and it gets out of hand, I will delete some of those threads to make sure writer's scripts can get some face-time.

    Occassionally, you might see some good discussion threads disappear from the forum. Check the Wordshop Archives subforum before panicking... sometimes, I'll move informative threads there to keep them archived.

  5. Activities This place is first and foremost set up for newer comic book writers to come in to post scripts and get feedback to help them learn the ropes and improve. We do have some activities in here from time-to-time to have fun and get a little practice, but I don't want these to get out of hand. Too many activity threads can take away from the people trying to get feedback on scripts. If you have an idea for an activity, contact me to discuss it. Let me know what your plan is for the activity, so I can see what you plan on doing (and in what kind of timeframes). I can go over it, plus I'll know what other activities people are wanting to start (so I can make sure there aren't a lot of activities going on at the same time and taking away from people trying to get feedback on their scripts). Simpler is better for activities... makes 'em easier to get approved.

    Currently, Richard Cosgrove will toss out activity threads on a regular basis... he already has my approval for that (so he's the only person that doesn't need to check with me first).
