Artist needed for Post Modern Superhero Book -- Exposure Guaranteed
General
I'm looking for an artist for a new project I'm working on. The story is another post modern take on the superhero, and, to be a little more specific, asking what drives the motivation behind unnecessary sequels and new stories to our favorite superheroes. My aim is to create a one shot comic book with potential for more stories in the future. Essentially, I want to create an entire universe around this one issue, which basically acts as the final issue of a phantom series of comics. In that vein, I see it as an Umbrella Academy meets Watchmen, hyperviolent punk rock opus that is over as soon as it starts. I envision it as both a kaleidoscopic piece of pop fiction and critique of the constant need to rehash our favorite heroes -- be it for monetary purposes or otherwise. Specifics My page count is 32 pages at the moment (with a 33rd page in the form of a newspaper article), but that may or may not adjust depending on the pay rate and further revisions. My initial page rate is 35 dollars, however, I'm willing to negotiate. Think of it as a starting rate. Tell me what you're thinking and we'll take it from there, I'll look at submissions from ANY price range. Payment terms will be along the lines of getting paid in portions every two weeks via paypal on the 3rd and 17th of the month, so long as we are completing pages -- fully sized in standard picture format (compression will come in the lettering and design process) -- that is, when I get paid, you get paid. Also willing to negotiate with this -- In the past, I've done half up front, half 5 days after completion. Either way, we will sign a contract. Which brings me to my next point... My Background My name's Luke Flaherty. I've been working with scripting comics for some time. I am the writer behind The Devil and the Dearly Departed, which has been fairly successful in terms of downloads and followers. Some of you may know me on twitter. More importantly, I work at one of the most famous comic book shops in the country. Located in Los Angeles, and something of a mecca of all things comicdom on the west coast. Creators, publishers, producers, etc. are friends of the store, and that's where it will be sold. Many creators have gotten their start here. This book will have a constant source of exposure. I can't overstate this enough, it is going to get readers and it is going to get looked at by people with pull. One of the reasons for starting this new project comes from recently starting working at this location. What I'm looking for The style of this book is very poppy and psychedelic, maybe something in the vein of a Gabriel Ba. It also has scenes where the style changes completely to the style of Yellow Submarine (complete with Paul McCartney reference), so I will need someone who is also a little bit versatile. Most importantly, I'm looking for GOOD PANEL WORK -- the ability to tell a story from panel to panel. Pinups are great, but it doesn't constitute being able to tell a cohesive story. In your submissions, I would very much like to see something that shows you can tell a story. The only real requirements are examples of panel work. Of course, the more you send the better. No other formal requirements other than that. In conclusion I want something that is not only fun but professional. That's it. A good comic book. Professionals and Aspiring talents can both apply, but this project should be able to sit next to any comic book on the shelf (because it will). You can email me your submissions at flahertyluke <at> gmail.com Thanks so much in advance, and thanks to the good people at digital webbing. Cheers, Luke Flaherty |
