Cool MOJO POP COMICS is looking for artists!

Hi, my name is Carlton Donaghe, and for the past several months, I've been been dropping by here and looking for artists. I've not only found some good ones, I've met some really cool people.

What I haven't been talking about, though, is that for the past several months, I've been quietly starting a business and building a website, Mojo Pop Comics. Well, I'm ready to talk about it and show it off. The site will be launching in August, if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise.

Please come by and check it out: mojopopcomics.com

I'm looking for artists who'd like to collaborate with me on stories that I will publish on Mojo Pop Comics. This isn't an if or a maybe: You work with me, and I'll publish it.

The comics will be ALL-AGES comics (not for adults, not for kids, for everybody) sold as PDF copies directly from the site, via PayPal. I've built the site using the Joomla Content Management System, and have installed a secure document seller into it.

The comics will be formatted as digital comics, designed to be read on a digital screen-- computer, tablet, smart-phone. If you've seen what Mark Waid has been working on, especially his proof-of-concept "Luther," you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Artists will receive a percentage of the cover price for every copy sold. I won't say what that is here, but a majority of the cover price will be going to the artist/colorist. Because there are no printing fees, you'll make a higher percentage from Mojo Pop than pretty much anywhere else, and definitely higher than from a print comic from anyone.

Plus, I have a number of other perks for the artists who work with me.

First, I'll also sell your all-ages comics through my site. If you've drawn an all-ages story, written by you or someone else, I'll sell it through my site for you. For every comic you do with me, I'll sell one of yours. Of course, it has to be all ages, and I have the right to refuse or remove any material from my site for any reason. I'm working with a business mentor through S.C.O.R.E., and he advised me to say that.

In addition, I can give you your own page on my site, plus a listing on the Pop Artist page. You can link from there to your own site, you can sell your own original art, do commissions, whatever. I'll also give you your own Mojo Pop email address.

The best thing about digital comics, they'll never go out of print. As long as the comics remain on my site, you'll be earning money off of them.

I have posted a number of short scripts I have been working on online at mojopopcomics.com/library. I'm also willing to create an original story with you if you don't find one you like. And when you download the stories, you'll see what the process is like for customers, once we start selling comics.

Ultimately, I'm looking for artists to work with me on a Mojo Pop universe. Instead of being a 'super-hero' universe, this one will be a little more wild and crazy. Yes there are super-heroes, but there are also Hollywood Movie Stars, Cowboys & Indians, rock and roll bands, and talking animals.

If you visit the site, you'll see one of the contributions in that area right now, drawn by the Mighty Ed Quinby.

Drop by the site. Take a look around. Check out some of the stories in the library. Then shoot me a line at carlton@mojopopcomics.com. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you.

Carltoon

Cool THANK YOU for the response!

The response to the ad has really been great.

Check out the Mojo Pop Comics' Pop Artists Page, mojopopcomics.com/pop-artists, to see the great line-up of artists attached.

Having worked in management, in human resources, and as a teacher both at the secondary and university level, I've learned how to have a good time while getting things done, and how to treat my colleagues with respect. The guys are very excited, and we've got some great comics planned.

One last thing, if I can say this without sounding too cheesy: I would absolutely love to hear from some female artists. I have yet to get even one reply from a single woman out there, even one who can't really draw but is at least hopeful.

I totally understand that there is an imbalance in the ratio of men to women in the industry. I don't want people to look at Mojo Pop and think I ever meant this to be an all-boys' club.

Don't get me wrong, the artists I'm working with aren't just great artists-- and they really are good, just wait till you see their art-- they are fantastic and intelligent men. They are talented, creative, full of ideas, and an absolute pleasure to work with.

But where are the talented women? Is it that you are wary of my business plan? If you'd like, I can connect you with the artists I am currently working with so that you can talk to them. Let me tell you, they'll be forthright and honest. They are more than willing to call me on my BS, so you can listen to what they say.

Anyway, thanks for the response. I'd still love to hear from any other talented pencil artists.
