What are YOUR goals??

I love hearing people's career/life goals, how they're getting there, and reevaluating goals are always important. Plus, it gets us all motivated. I'm turning 30 this year, so I'm contemplating all this. Clear off old projects and commissions!

So, what are your 2012 goals?

What are your 2017 goals?

What is your ultimate goals?

MINE?

2012: Get my creator-owned fantasy book pitched before my birthday June 28th! 3 pages to go! Fully painted and I have no time, so that's tough, but I'm going to do it! Get my wife going on her creator-owned projects and some of the licensed properties we want to do! Do a good job on the comics, tv, film, and game work I'm doing.

2017: Have a few creator owned books out there. Be fully producing (pencil, ink, color, letter; perhaps write, too) books for Marvel & DC on some of my favorite characters like Batman, Superman, Hulk, Wolverine, Captain America). Be working more in depth in the film and gaming industries. More Money! More family time!!

2022 & BEYOND!: Be working full-time writing my novels and writing and illustrating my creator-owned comics. Produce and develop console games and film. Work with my wife on her creator-owned properties and get her into creating games and film too because I'd love to see that! All while we travel the galaxy (i.e. more time for family and world travel). Super rich! Super famous! Having already conquered all industries and major companies therein I would look back at my wake and laugh!

Whoa. Lost it there towards the end. I like thinking about the future.

2012: Get work out there, same as every year prior. Couple GNs, a webcomic, a couple games, a toy line, websites, and stuff I'm probably forgetting. I keep a ton of irons in the fire, because you never know when one is going to fizzle out somehow. Other than getting my work in people's faces, no other goals exist.

2017: Be in a place where I can exclusively write/create without having to do the rest. Promoting, pitching, advertising, putting out fires, collab-searching, clawing, clawing, CLAWING...

2022 Onward: Have a body of work that's so expansive and interconnected that people actually go insane trying to figure out what the fuck I did. Also, I should probably be dead so everything seems to have much more depth and importance than it actually does. (I know that gives me less than 10 years to live, but if I can catch a few breaks it's more than enough time.)

When ya see something boring on cable, ya get on twitter, when ya get on twitter ya see Ray tweeting something linked to DW, when ya come on DW ya act like theJaz180, when ya act like theJaz180 ya type weird off topic things, don’t type weird off topic things, switch to dish TV from Cable and stop paying too much fo’ cable…

Oh Hi folks, oh yeah the question… yeah… umm let’s see… 2012 and such and such, well if I’m still alive my goal is to get better at whatever the heck I’m doing, collab wit’ y’all, become an interesting name that’s well known in geek kingdom, I mean in our universe, I meant among comic folks… help other artists trying to get to where they want to go, yeah I guess this is what I want for now.

Oh yeah don’t pay too much fo’ cable.

2012: Get my co-created IP out to the masses and build a strong fan base. Get through the two big cons we're planning to attend and to keep doing my freelance gigs.

2017: Robot God Akamatsu the animated series is just ending while the live action is planning to be released in the summer. A toy line and other merchandises are top of the market rivaling Transformers .

2022 & BEYOND!: No more financial worries, I can get back to my own personal creator-owned project that i created back in 1991. My muse and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary while the kids are out in the world discovering their paths. Lots of travelling, maybe some small tutoring to young artist to give back and of course completing my project.

2012 Learn Manga Studio when I'm out of school for the summer. Try to draw a 24 page comic with Manga Studio.

2017 By 2017, I would have started my own comic book company and published my first graphic novel and will be working on other graphic novels.

2022 I will have published several comic book titles and graphic novels, and I will be a multi-millionaire. I will have worked freelance for DC and Marvel.

2012 My first break in one of the major publishers.

2017 Established penciler. Regular work at Marvel/DC. No financial worries anymore...

2022 A known name in the industry with a few creator owned stories out there, maybe a couple optioned for films. Eventually making some real money. Don't need to be a rich guy, just have enough to go around... More family time.

2012 -Moved to Taiwan during the summer (I'm hispanic lol)
-Establish my new fully equipped studio (I will also sell all I got here)
-Finish all the commission and sketch card sets I need before the moving.
-By the end of 2012 I need to at least finish two #1 issues of a couple of projects.
-Get to at least all the closest Asian Comicons (Or Anime-manga Cons)
2017 -Have a fully equipped studio building working in straight to digital media (subscription interactive web-comics perhaps?)
-Have a couple of artists or other assistants working in "all-in-house" made projects.
-Expanding our own brand with genuine-original-honest "products".
2022 -Keep doing what I have been done the last 10 years.

It's not your abilities I'm worried about, it's the big two actually providing ongoing financial security. XD

In no particular time table:

Get my first comic published
Help get a new comic company some recognition
Get my PHD in English
Become a well known comic writer
Work for DC or Marvel?

Ah, ok! My mistake...

I guess with their rates, selling pages, commissions, royalties,... an established artist won't be scrapping for food. That's all I'm asking these days...

now I am a pensioner, well 35 just a few weeks ago, I balance what I assume is a very modest short-term idea of small baby steps...with a nagging insistent whisper that says "you can still bring down various pillars of western philosophy".

2012: Hopefully pay the rent, submit yet another PhD proposal to what might be more British arseholes (the last was a TV producer who literally looked down his nose at me). Publish Dead Lucky 1, Listen 1, Gia Giantess 3, Cuckoo 1, Weird Zombie Horror 2.

2017: Hoping I have closed down my collectables business by then. Please please lord above allow me to have completed my PhD. Hoping that one title in particular in the works for Black Ship Books (between 400 to 800 pages) gets some attention with its blend of hard drugs, alcoholism, pornography, weird sex, love, death, bla bla.

2022 etc: Maybe 2 or 3 kids already named by my wife in 2012! Academic career while still running Black Ship Books.

So, what are your 2012 goals?

-To continue to bring in enough work to support my endeavors as a full time artist.
-To build up my portfolio with my current work.
-To flesh out concepts for some solo projects I've been working on.
-To have fun at the conventions I'm going to be attending (Tri-State Comic Con, Baltimore and NC Comicon)

What are your 2017 goals?

-Still be working as a comic artist
-Be working on a long term creator owned series.

What is your ultimate goals?

-To be a successful artist/creator.
-To be happy.

My lil' old goals.

2012: Get 3 or 4 projects underway, be it funded, published, or drawn. Get started on dozen more. Meet some more creative interesting people. (This is actually an ongoing goal.)

2017: By this point my goal would be making a living off my writing, to support not just myself but my wife and future children.

2023: I'd hope to write/finish my magnum opus by this year. Hopefully pretty comfortable money wise so my writing would not be tied to the next meal. Maybe go back to school as well.
