Name: Isabelle Melancon (or Secondlina around the internet)

A Litte About Yourself:

Isabelle Melançon is a French-Canadian artist born in 1985. She grew up in a family of book and comic-lovers and has been drawing ever since she could lift a pencil. She used to want to be a dragon-riding knight, then envisioned a career change as a comic artist at the age of 10.

Since then, Isabelle has been drawing her way through school, which included doodling on lockers, and graduated from the University of Ottawa with a visual arts and administration double-major. Isabelle has a few published graphic novels and art exhibits under her belt.

Isabelle’s drawing style is heavily influenced by American and Japanese animation, as well as older Victorian and french illustration work, creating a fluid yet detailed mix. She is madly in love with fairy tales and literature and enjoys playing with the classics in her comic and written works.

Tell us about yourself! I'm a full scale movie addict. Seriously, the movie monkey on my back is the size of King Kong. I've been writing about movies on the net for fourteen years now, sometimes professionally. I also drew 150-something pages of a graphic novel in the 1990s that is so awful that it will never see the light of day if I can help it.

Otherwise, I'm a GLBT activist (I'm trans, by the way), I like to garden and cook, and I'm coming out of a longtime institutional graphic design job that was relatively stable, but turned out to be creatively stagnant. Currently looking for more rewarding work.

Worked on Womanthology : Heroic, Sketchbook, Holiday PDF. My story is the one-page "The New Adventures of Queen Elizabeth I", on which I did full production. I also wrote, drew, and lettered "The Night Before" for the holiday PDF, which was colored by Yel Zamor.

Goal in Comics: Basically, to make comics that people will read. I struggle against my own self-doubts about this, though. I'm painfully shy about showing my work to the world. Womanthology has helped me immeasurably with this.

I hope I'm not being greedy, since I've been in all of the Womanthology stuff so far, but I'd really like to work with a collaborator this time on something longer than one page. But I'll settle for anything, really, even sitting on the sidelines cheering.

Work Example:

A Little About Yourself: Hmm...what is there to tell. I live in the far north of Sweden which is covered in snow for the most part. I love anything creative werter it's felting, sculpting, painting or drawing ( Unfortunately I'll never be a good knitter nor play any instrument well and sewing always seems to fail as well, but I still enjoy it XD )
I would love to work on more womanthology related things, everyting I've seen so far has been pretty amazing and all of you ladies are a huge inspiration to me!

A Little About Yourself: Hi! I'm Rosalba, from Mexico, I'm a full time mom, illustrator and tattoo artist, and I love to do comics when I have a chance, yet I don't do it professionally. As a comic artist I did a self-published fanzine a few years ago, did some short stories, started my web comic with my husband (that was on hiatus while I had my baby but we'll took it over again soon) and this year comes out a comic anthology where I were invited to participate. I love my country folklore and culture, love dogs and practice the ancient art of full time day dreaming

Worked on a Womanthology Project before? Nope, but I'd looooove to

Sample of Work: There, a yet non-published comic I did last year, it's in spanish but I can translate it gladly to whoever who wants me to
