Although, I'm not necessarily a writer (except for writing my own self-published comics) I was thinking how your advice on having a goal can pertain to artists too.
What if your goal is to make comics that addresses something you feel is wrong or lacking in the industry currently? Does that automatically mean you are also bad-mouthing others' work? An offhand example might be the wish to have strong female characters who are not sexually objectified and never make brokeback poses. (There've been a lot of articles written on the subject lately that I've read. ^_^) |

Hi Devin,
When working with an artist, what are some very important points that writers should keep in mind? |

Hey Devin!
My question is what tips can you give about introducing a character (or two characters at the same time in my case) in a story? |

Hey there, Devin! First off, thanks for taking the time out of your busy scheduale to answer these and second, I, actually, did an article analysis based off of an old CBR article you were contributing to, called " Homosexuality & Comics"! I'll post it up on my Tumblr in the coming weeks so that you can take a look at it.
![]() Here's my questions: What tips can you give on someone, like myself, who is in the process of writing her first comic book script? 2. Any good tips on getting the "correct" narrative across so that one doesn't ramble on?

As a writer, you are in charge of every little thing in your world, and if you end up forgetting to put some kind of important detail in, then things tend to fall apart in the story. Any advice on how to write gestures naturally? I'm great at dialogue and narrative, but I can't seem to get gestures that characters do, correctly.

I'd like to second Chandra's question as I'm actually participating in this whole debate about the portrayal of women in comics. Am I shooting myself in the foot? My goal is to show there's a better way to do things and to encourage people to rethink the way they draw women by showing examples, but there's always this nagging worry that someone will take what I'm doing as personal attacks.

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions--and with such detail! My question is sort of in reference to your earlier advice about having a specific goal for pursuing a writing gig in comics. I have a very specific idea of what I would like to do (there's a particular character for which I'd love to write) but I'm unsure of just how to pursue this. DC doesn't accept unsolicited submissions and their "Talent Search" at the convention only applies to artists. So I guess my question is: any advice on how to proceed? Is it simply a matter of networking at conventions? I've written a spec script...

Hey, guys!
I'm still inexcusably behind on answering your last batch of (awesome!) questions, but in the meantime, check out my latest interview at Sean Taylor's comic blog: http://seanhtaylor.blogspot.com/2012...interview.html |
