These are great! I love the pencil to color progression. I feel like the noses are getting lost for me on most of these, but it's not stopping my enjoyment of them. Like my brain is just choosing to ignore the nose and I'm only seeing the eyes and mouth.

I'm getting a Maurice Sendak vibe from these. Nice work!

As others have said, Seuss-y and awesome.

Also, the title of this thread is hilarious.

Right up my alley! Very Seussian indeed, and as a fan of the good Dr. that's a compliment!

As I'm interested in cartooning myself, and currently practicing to improve, do you mind if I ask you what your training background is? The reason I ask is that I love your rendering of the grass and earth - it's something I'm struggling with. Practice from life, or practice from the masters?

Very nice! The monsters have a lot of lovable characteristics and personality to them. Your style is very attractive, too. Love to see more!

It's a little of both, I'm mostly self taught, but the earth and grass were heavily influences by Dr. Suess's "hair" like grass style that he would draw in his stories, that's how I treated that particular whole page.

he whole floating earth scene was totally inspired by Scotty Young's art BTW.

Thanks for the response!

I tend to ask most artists whose work I admire this question, or at least try to find out. The reason is that I'm entirely self-taught, but always come back to the same problems, I'm trying to find a style that allows me to draw loosely but I really feel I should study the 'fundamentals' a little bit. I think like you I should worry more about learning from other artists than sitting down and trying to draw a landscape (which, frankly, isn't my thing). Inspiring stuff, thanks!
