1. Spend some time going to other boards that have your target demographic and make intelligent posts, and maybe even make mention of something in your blog that relates to them, etc.
2. Hold a logo-design contest

Naked gay men. Drawn in a manga style. Explicit penetration. Post on Smackjeeves.

Naked women and violence are highly overrated in terms of their selling ability.

What worked for us with the Bulletproof Angel project was doing a multi-pronged approach, where we focused on a Facebook page, Twitter account, and having the link in my signature line on all of the forums I frequent. Not sure which works the best but we get decent traffic on the website now. It could be a lot higher if I put a lot more effort into it but there's only so much time you can spend on your online marketing, otherwise there's no time left for the actual creating

Well Living With Insanity just had one of its highest days today, which could be because we had a scene with a strip club.

Create regular meaningful blog posts, browse into other forums, post on other websites/blogs always linking back to you, be active on social networks, use SEO correctly, create and release products, hold contests, sell merchandise and read some books on driving traffic to further one's learning.

Get popular bloggers, YouTubers, Tweeters, newsmakers to mention your blog. Of course, ya gotta give them a reason to...like posting breaking Nordish news on your site...first look art maybe...be part of an interview...get Rich Johnston to do a Swipe File on one of your posted pieces (preferably where you were swiped) or get Mark Millar to mention how much he misses your work on Conan. Making blog posts on topical issues may get you mentioned on other, more popular, blogs.

My traffic is predominantly coming from Google these days, since I posted about artistic influences and named names, also including images. Most of my visitors aren't there for me, but if a few stay...

Actually that's a great point too. Keywords. We get a lot of traffic by people searching various incarnations of "model sheet" and "cosplay", because we have one post each where those terms are mentioned. It's weird how those single posts for some reason ranks us highly on Google in a lot of countries. Still haven't figured that one out but, like Jamie said, a few of those random, misdirected searchers do end up staying and/or returning.
