Fright Night (remake)

Jon I'm going to call this one a lost caused, it bottomed out Friday. It will probably be pulled from theaters this weekend.

Domestic Total as of Sep. 2, 2011: $16,087,000

Now there are a few things we can take from this.

1. The Vampire craze is over. Time to move on to the next group of monsters Hollywood.

2. Colin Farrel cannot carry a movie, which could mean bad things for Total Recall.

3. The remake backlash has begun. In which case Hollywood is screwed.

Not sure about this one, most people I know have never heard of Fright Night so have no clue it's a remake

and i think Vampires only work if they can go out in the day and sparkle like pwetty wittle diamonds and be all protective of their lady lovers!

plus they have to be teenagers and apparently have a face that resembles a pan...

I, personally, don't think any of those trends are over because one movie tanked.

Ok, maybe you're right about number 2, since actors are less important than cgi these days. I can't think of anyone who can carry a movie by themselves anymore.

"Time to movie on to the next group of monsters Hollywood."
Hollywood isn't going to take the risk of doing that. They're going to wait for a novelist or a comic-book creator to make another horror staple semi-sucessful again first.

Conan adds to the trend.

Dwayne Johnson is doing a pretty good job with drawing power right now.

Zombies are still a viable option.
I expect the next underworld to tank as well.

I feel like there's only one thing we can take from this.. movies that don't look good and don't have a large group of people interested in them don't do very well. And that's obvious.

Vampire craze over? Well, there's not really a vampire craze, it's more like there's a dark erotic fiction craze, and this movie didn't fit the bill. I still think movies like twilight will be pulling in the big bucks.

Didn't that thing already tank? I thought there was a direct-to-video film about a year ago.

Underworld is fast becoming a Highlander type franchise, only with less cult status. I mean really, who watch those movies now? The first and second one's only draw was to watch Kate Beckinsale running around in tight leather outfits.

Huh. The Kate Beckinsale in leather outfit thing ain't doing it for me now. This one looks awfully cheesier than the last.

1] Vampires are now too "romanticized" in Hollywood (fuckyouverymuch, Twilight), so a 'scary vampire' just isn't going to cut it for awhile.

2] Colin Farrel can't even carry a third tier supporting role, nevermind an actual movie. He was the worst thing about Daredevil, and in a movie with the shear amount of suck that Daredevil has, that's saying a lot.

3] It's not the remake thing per se, it's what's being remade.

4] It seems the "next monster" genre may be the giant monster one. *crossing fingers for 'Pacific Rim' and 'Godzilla'*

Well Farrel did look the part, I just think he acted too cheesy as Bulls-eye.

It's almost like you said Will Farrel. Almost

That would have been a very different film

I want to see it when it comes out on video because it seems David Tennant is the best part of the movie.

I have no idea what Fright Night is, I never saw the original.
