Zuda no more.

I guess we all knew it was coming.

http://zuda.blog.dccomics.com/2010/0...uture-of-zuda/

I just got a rejection for my last submission this week, one I had submitted about 2 hours before they announced the removal of the competition aspect.

Thoughts?

Zuda seemed to be very successful. Lots of quality work. Lots of participation. This kind of seems like a move to fix something that wasn't broken. The other bundle of online crap they're peddling in the article doesn't interest me at all.

Dun, dun, dun... anotha one bites the dust! HUH-HUH. (Another "Big Two" talent search initiative, that is.)

I wonder who will seize the opportunity to replace it...

If anyone's interested, I've got WebbedComics.com and ComicDig.com sitting around... <_<

Could set up a "submit your comic, get hosted, we pay for advertising, you keep your rights" thingamajig.

I wish I could say this was surprising news...

Sad part is some titles are getting canned. However, that's pretty much a given considering the restructuring.

The Webcomics.com guys are going to have a field day with this one.

And at asylumink.net, we're taking submissions for short horror and sci-fi story's for the magazine that premiers in August. No where near the same thing but if you're looking for exposure it could help.

Either way, it's a shame to see such a solid presence on the web go away.

The ipad revoluton has begun.

Say your prayers Retailers. Your elitist attitude towards not up selling products has resulted in your eventual elimination from the ebb and flow of things.

I would assume Diamond will be next to go once everyone get son this gravy train which they will eventually because everyone wants it fast and now and paper press ain't working that way.

Peace,

M.

Sadly, Mark, I must agree with you. I give the direct market 5-6 years, tops.

I hope digital doesn't kill print. I don't know about everyone else but I like to have an actual book in my hand. Something I can put on a shelf/coffee table or loan to a friend.

I predicted mobile devices were going to be the next big thing for comics like two years ago and you all told me I was retarded.

Not saying I'm not retarded, just that I was right.

Bazinga.

digital won't kill print. not any time soon. you guys are funny. i know hundreds of people who read comics and i don't know anyone who reads them on an ipad or kindle or whatever. not a one, and that's from all kinds of backgrounds. digital will be another way of delivering material, and that's a good thing. but i sure don't see any revolution in it--it always comes down to material.

Agreed. Digital may be the way of the future, but it won't render paper obsolete. At least not any time in the forseeable future.

They predicted video games were going to kill off comics/books, and that hasn't happened...that I'm aware of.

I don't know, I'm personally not crazy about digital comics. Like someone else said, I like having a comic in my hands. I like looking at my comics on a shelf. But that's just me.

I would guess, for the forseeable future, that savvy creators will release both print and digital versions. Two revenue streams are better than 1...

That's the plan for one of the books I have coming out soon-ish, but that's more the publisher's decision than mine, but double the revenue (potentially) is fine with me.

I dunno Stevens.

I've been getting the vibe that this is the way they are gonna go. They being the Big Two.

If that happens i see things in trade and special format being still available via print- but monthlies will go the day of the dinosaur man.

Because it's a money issue. For all involved. Money rules the world and all those people you know ( which no offense can't hold all the wieght of the majority) will be S.O.L and will have to fall in line or buy it in special format or trade.

Things are moving too fast to meet up with the supply and demand of the sociltations and the variables that come into play with producing a monthly quality comic book. Most of the tunr a round time is wasted on printing production.

Or at least that's a 2-3 week window of making marks that you don't get when dealing with Diamond. The internet contains more of an audience as well...

Look at us right here and right now. Almost Always.

Peace,

M
