My PS3 is dead...
I've owned my PS3 for 3 years with no problems - and now it's died on me, just randomly, in the middle of the day, after being on it for about 20 minutes. I wanted to shoot zombies, instead my PS3 turned into one. I feel like it could be something to do with going online and maybe 'contracting' some bug from someone else, but I don't know if that's possible, and I also hear that this 'yellow light of death' is a hardware issue and not a bug. Is there anything I can do without resorting to forking out for a replacement?
And please, any suggestions of buying an XBox 360 will be met with jibes and a virtual kick in the balls...

Does it just switch off in the middle of playing? Mine did the same and it was just out of warranty but it had just enough life left in it to pass the trade in test for a new PS3 slim!

I've read all sorts of fixes from updating (or regressing) firmware to 'hard' resets. I tried all of these without success but it may be worth trying before you give up the ghost.

Apparently something can be done with the power supply inside, but I'm not sure what, you'd have to look that up.
Sony has a service, only available in the UK I believe. If it dies, or there's any other issue, 2 working days later they'll bring you another and take away the old one. It's free for the first year and £2.49 per month after that, or it was when I started paying. Of course that's a bit late now for you, but if decide to plump for a new one... Microsoft's service takes too damned long, so I have a little fund for a replacement when the need arises. |

The machine revolution continues... last week all the self check out lanes at Lowes went down at the same time causing mass panic and long lines on the two registers with a human being at the helm. Codes for help were sent out to employees as the panic grew... and now this. Its only a matter of time now until the machine overlords have us all in chains. As for help... sorry, i'm still running a 7 year old PS2... which looks like it's kicking your PS3's ass right about now
