Not another one...!

Yeah... so... I was going to sit on this a while longer, but I couldn't resist adding to the recent line of threads. (This dancing banana is not a random click of the mouse, but rather the perfect representation of how obnoxious I am about to be.)

Anyway, in 2008 I came up with a project and pitched it (with near immediate success) to a publisher. The tale which started out as a one-shot, turned to a three-issue mini-series, morphed into a graphic novel, then finally transmophorminated into a digest-sized graphic novel. (Whew!)

With this 96-page monster in hand, I went through about ten or fifteen illustrators with varying degrees of success.

Now, the pencils are near completion and the colors have begun. I'm also lettering in addition to having done the writing duties. I've even managed to get a pretty popular indie artist to hack out the cover. Honestly, this wasn't so much my awesome negotiation abilities as much as the material itself.

Though the working out of details and a looming deadline are a bit nerve-jangling, it's a wonderful problem to have. Sort of like treading water in Dr. Pepper... uh... assuming you like Dr. Pepper as much as I do.

I can't say too much about the project, other than you can watch this space for eventual revelations and updates... Click this, yo!

I'll also post some stuff here as time progresses, though since the artwork isn't my own, I'm not sure if it belongs in this thread or the "plug" forum or...

Wish me luck on getting this all wrangled by May 1st! D:

...I had to google "ancillary rights"...

I love Dr. Pepper (have you tried the new Cherry flavor? sweet baby Jesus it's delicious!), and congratulations! So far 2010 seems to be the Year of the DW-er!

Congrats. DWers are running shit in 2010. LOL!

96 pages isn't really "monster". The Continentals will be well over 300 pages when completed. I'm putting the NOVEL back into graphic novel. LOL!

Whoa! Fred is from Jamaica Estates?! I went to Hillcrest High School. You've gotta know where that is, right?

THE CONTINENTALS. It's like Sherlock Holmes meets the 60's tv show The Avengers with a dash of James Bond for flavor.

Fanks, guys! It's nice to be a part of DW. (finally!)

Here's a small (very small) preview from the fantastic illustrator on the project, one Justin Wayne...

AT FIRST I WAS LIKE... / THEN I LOL'D.

Was really lucky to find Justin and have him actually come onboard the project. I feel like I sort of snapped him up before he had the opportunity to do bigger, better things with some other guy.

As for the secrecy - One thing that has followed me throughout my journey toward being published has been the fact that - the moment I let on what I'm working on - somone else publishes/announces the same concept. It's just coincidence, but I don't want to jinx this.

At the risk of giving anything away, here are the character designs for two of the protagonists...

Once again by Jumpin' Justin Wayne.

Sorry about the size of the full image, but I assume everyone but me has a fast connection. (I myself being on a 28.8k dinosaur that pulls in a max of 4kb/second on a good day.)

Congrats, man! I really dig the scripts you post up in the writer showcase from time to time, so I'll definitely check this out once there's, uh... something to check out! I'm definitely cool with putting a stop to the wave of sentimental vampires.

You guys are awesome.

There should be some more stuff to check out soon. I'm waiting for a few things to come through behind-the-scenes before I go public with it. (Learned behavior from past projects that were announced, got people jazzed, then fizzled.)

As for the pubisher, it'll be with Viper Comics ( http://www.vipercomics.com ) and should hopefully be out for Halloween. May 1st is just the deadline for getting the material complete. I assume they'd like an ample amount of time to take care of their part. Heh.
