Emma-The White Queen

Mister Bot posted a piece of The White Queen some time ago and he motivated me to take a shot at her as well ....well...you know what I mean. I'm trying to broaden my horizons and I've currently lined up 3 pieces of female characters to help me improve.
This is on 81/2x 11 illustration board. This is just the pencils...ink and color to follow...and that will be done old school. I tried to capture the character more as a strong and independent figure as opposed to the cheesecake variety.(Although in this getup she would never be mistaken as a nun.) That's more of a personal preference. My plans color wise I've yet to decide. The only thing set in stone are the "White Queen" plant leaves that will surround and weave through the decorative frame around her. The leaves are white framed in green with red veining. Crits are welcome. Tanx J.

Nice pic.
She has some curves and size, but still looks very feminine. (not a stick insect model).

Looks great! I love her expression.
In fact, her face reminds me of Crystal Bernard from WINGS.

Well done!

Man, you're old. While I appreciate the curves and swirves of all those women, I do realize they were part of my Mom's era, not mine. I just had to pleasure to watch airings in the 70's and moreso 80's with A&E AMC and TCM.

So tell me Jim, you pushing 60 or what?

BTW, I think she could use a little longer body, or maybe not as broad of shoulders. It looks really nice though, and looks nothing like Crystal Bernard.

Yeah...should have been more specific....I'm Ron's age ...so my parents watched a lot of old movies from their era...pre AMC or TCM days...I just happened to be in the room...and very impressionable.

Hey Jim

I really like it. I agree with Justice's crit on the face/head size and I think he shoulders are the tinyest bit too broad. I really dig the border, great work on the figure. You really captured that inner strength.

I need more practice at figures like this, I guess I should follow your lead and set myself the challenge of doing some supergirl or powergirl sketches to improve.

Oh and you made a very common mistake, my name is actually BOTT with two T's. lots of people seem to think I'm posting as jimmybot like my first name and some kinda mecha thing, when it's my real last name

What?!? You're human? Sorry dude. I've spelled your name right before.
Old age.
Yeah I agree with everything about the shoulders and figure. Especially once Justice posted the changes. I'll make those before inks and colors and post the results. I've set a goal for myself to, point by point, go after my weaknesses and improve. Trying to achieve a recognizable look to my art. I'm really starting to enjoy what I'm doing again. Thanks for the comment sir. J.

She's cool! I like her strength also. The background adds a lot too rather than just the solo figure.
