Terminator: Salvation

Has anyone else seen it yet? I went in seeing it yesterday with no expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. Sam Worthington MADE this movie work, he's fantastic. I'm also really starting to like Anton Yelchin (sp?). His Kyle Reese was perfect; He even made himself sound Michael Biehn-ish! Christian Bale was just, well, Christian Bale. The story follows the previous events from the other movies - no reboot. Good action flick.

I'll post this again from the other thread.

I saw it last night with my wife. She didn't like it as much as she thought she would.
I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. Brain candy.
The Marcus Wright character was my favorite part about the movie, but I ended up disliking the direction the story took him.
Christian Bale was Batman playing John Connor, and the critics were right, there was little chemistry between him and any of the other actors. I do have to admit, I totally geeked out at the first appearance of the T-800.

I did think it was interesting that they basically made the 1992 video game Robocop vs Terminator.

LOL yeah it seems that way now that I think about it. I loved the Marcus Wright character, and I can see how people might feel about the ending. What irks me is the reviews people give the movie complaining about the ending. I understand that people may not like it because they like the character, but I don't think it deserves negative reviews for that. The ending is necessary for the story (I think). Oh and I nominate Sam Worthington for the Captain America role.

I don't have a problem with how they ended it. All the other Terminator movies ended the exact same way.
My issue lies more with how they got to that point. It wasn't my movie though, so nobody asked me.

Like how convenient it was for them to get to that point? I'm with you there if that's what you mean.

Exactly. Out of all the available material, they took the easy route. I felt a little let down.

The movie had way to many cuts. It felt like entire scenes were missing.
The gas station scene was kind of off, how did they not hear that thing coming.

I enjoy the movie though, the cgi for Arnold was amazing.
Bale delivered alot of his lines kind of flat. The worse being the "There is no fate but what you make" at the end.

Marcus owned this movie though. They will probably find a way to bring him back.

My only gripe with the movie was that I didn't understand why Skynet was capturing people.

The Arnold "cameo" was well done. A lot better than the creepy young Professor X face from Wolverine.

The flesh that covers the Terminators is not artificial.

I LOVE Terminator, and I enjoyed all the movies. This one.... I didn't really like this one as much as I wanted too.

(Spoilers!)

I loved how Arnlod looked! I mean WOW they did a good job! I did enjoy all of the terminators quite a bit, and I loved Young Kyle Reese, but the story just went crazy at the end! John Conner, target number 1 ( or 2) is in THE capitol of Skynet, in a main building, all of skynet knows he's there (planned it even!), have a massive amount of robots around, and all they do is send one Terminator after him? Not only that, but somehow a helicopter is conveniently able to land at said Skynet capitol without one shot fired at them, then had sufficient time to load up all survivors ( and John) then fly away without a hitch? I know Hollywood adds a lot of convenient moments for characters, but wow!! Also Christian Bale's man-lion growling got insane at times

"Whew-es...Kyew-Wreeeeeth!!" (trans: Where is Kyle Reese! )

Sorry if I'm complaining too much I just wanted to love this movie so bad! I very much detest Christian Bale, but I still went in trying to love this movie. I do wish they had gotten the guy who played John Conner in T3 though.

Anyway, it was an okay movie, but it's no Star Trek!!

It's kinda hard to make the John Connor role, set in that timeframe, soar. I mean, the character is like a Vietnam vet. His whole life has been shot to hell, along with the world, so he's naturally not going to be all charm and smoothness. Being downcast and grim all the time is real to the situation but doesn't really set a character's personality alight on film, not unless he goes all nutso like many a great cinema villain, but that would obviously not be John Connor then. I don't really know what else Bale could have done with the role. There's not a lot there in the meterial for him to make magic out of. The good stuff is all with the Marcus character (and Kyle Reese to a lesser degree).
