Yeah, C.B.'s still involved in finding artists; he's just not on-staff.

Cary Nord: I know, and thanks for reiterating it.

Jimmy: Apology accepted.

Cary K: It rotates the same space with Mark Waid's column. (I'd like to know how he did that, btw.)

It doesn't rotate. "Another" links to Project Fanboy, and "person" links to Kung Fu Monkey.

Thanks, Kevin!

That was bothering me. I was playing with my mouse, seeing when it changed and such, and never really looked at the placement, just the underlined words.

And now I feel sheepish.

Forby, I wouldn't take anything posted online about you too personally anyway. As I'm sure you know it's hard to interpret what someone is saying or meaning to say from their intent in saying it much less whether there is any rationale to be insulting. People post things they but rarely think about it long and hard, I know I don't.

I had to go back and read the article because of all the shit stirred up...I though I'd read the wrong one...I guess I'm missing something. What has become increasingly more frequent is the amount of people misunderstanding what exactly transpires here on this site...Or hell maybe I'm wrong and just damn gullible. I get that this site promotes the Digital Webbing comics..(read Zombie Highway) and others (Fist of Justice) but it's also a learning venue. I chance to post art and the written word and get crits from pro's and schleps like myself. In hopes of becoming a better artist or, in my case, a better storyteller.
But in order to do that you need to take an honest..honest look at yourself and what you're doing and gauge where you are and where you want to be. Then go about the business of gathering the info and practice..practice....practice to get yourself there.
I've learned 2 things to day by reading this article. 1- I've confirmed I'm not as good as I think I am, but more importantly as good as I want to be. And 2- Mr. Forby has got a wealth of info on the link in that article that I'll be throwing into fav's to read later.

Second time this week it seems appropriate....

It would be an interesting sociology experiment to see the ages of the folks in each camp. I teach in public schools and I'm constantly teaching, or training young adults that have grown up in the "Everybody gets a trophy for just showing up," generation.

I work with kids right out of college that have literally never heard anything negative about themselves, or the work they do. It's beyond the arrogance of youth. They literally have never been given honest, constructive criticism. And now, they take it as a personal offense if someone points out a weakness or flaw in their job.

Hell, I have adults breaking down into tears when you make a simple suggestion on how to improve their performance, or if they don't get all 10s on an eval.

It's sad that it has gotten this way. I don't believe in ripping into somebody, making them feel as if they are worthless, but I will not lie to someone whom has come to me for advice just so I don't make them feel sad.

I grew up with the mentality of don't get too high, and don't get too low when assessing your skills, because there is always someone better and always someone worse. And too never believe you've got it all figured out because there is always something to learn, some way to improve. And you should strive to get a little better at what you do every day.

Now it's all paperwork. "Ooo, I have a bachelors degree in creative writing, see? This paper says I read some books for four years and I'm certified to write. I'm entitled to be published."

That mindset doesn't work in any field with any degree.

...I wonder what will happen after a few more generations of this... once the spoon fed generation takes over all the positions of power.

My girlfriend had a university class in which the prof stated, '30 years ago you would have all failed.'

I'm not sure how we got here. I blame Dr. Spock.

Times like these are what rights, these type of ships. There will be more job loss to come, stateside anyway. Which means that results will matter again. People that can get the job done will get the jobs, and if you are not in that class, you will have to honest assess how to get there. It'll be a matter of survival.

But..it's all ending in 2012 anyway. I stopped paying my bills last month
