Ghosts

I entered this for the Ten Ton sketch challenge this week, but then I felt like adding some digital greyscale paint to it so I did the second one over it.

This needs more rendering. I understand the look you're going for, but with your smoke you haven't gone all the way yet. Still looks like you blotched it in with a large point brush in photoshop. I think you're trying to get something similar to the concept art from MGS, but even as "messy" as the style is, there is still a crisp, finished feel that you're missing here.

Good points, Yojimbo. I've never heard of MGS, but glad it resonates somewhere close to something popular.

I was going for contemplative/relaxed, but bored works, too. Thanks for the comment.

I REALLY think the looser one works better.. When you get that tight, it puts more importance on the "correctness" of all the anatomy etc. When it's looser, it's easier to accept it as stylized, and it has a rough Seinkewicz sort of vibe.

One thing you might try is to get some texture in the clouds in sketch 2, to relate to the texture on her, and also to get away from how they look drawn by a bland computer paint-brush.

One suggestion, if you wanna tighten things up a bit, is to not clean up everything. Just hit the important areas, like her face, hand and gun, and maybe the roof just below her feet and some of the nearer buildings, but leave everything else loose.
