Grimm Cover and promo

Hey gang
Here is the finished cover without the logo for my super hero book that will be coming out next year called "Grimm". The pencils were done by Randy Green and inks By Rick Ketcham and the Colors by Andy Poole.

And here is a promo pic I did for the book. It is all me.

Thanks everyone.

Miguel Marques-Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

richcapo-Yeah, Ryan co scripted an issue about a year and a half ago. He needed to have something published to sell at the con in Chicago and I let him work on my book. This is a reboot. All the writing will be done by myself and after the one shot, which Koi Turnbull penciled and Rick Ketcham inked, I will be handling all the art chores as well.

Glad to see the book is getting such a positive welcome. I really appreciate it everyone.

Nice work, I like the character design.

On the first pic though it looks like he is either standing on a wall behind him or lying on a floor, it's hard to tell. A horizontal line close to his feet behind him would possibly make it look like he has his back against a wall.

I like the second one, would make a good desktop wallpaper.

Thanks everyone.

joh james-Thanks buddy. What cons are you going to next year?

Bryan Boland-Thanks. I agree with the background. It does come off a little flat. I having the colorist rework a few things and see what we can do to make it have more depth. The second pic was actually made as a desktop for my computer. Good eye. Thanks again.

Scriptron-Thanks for the great job on the logo. Could you note me your email address my friend? I have a couple questions for ya.

It really excites me that Grimm is having such a positive receiption. The character is the very first character I ever created and it holds a special place in my heart.

So gang I truly appreciate the kind words.

This is the mock up for the cover to issue #2.

I am having some issues with the logo and can't really figure it out. For some reason I can't get it to actually blend with the cover. It looks like it was just pasted on and even comes across as a seperate piece of art. Any help would be appreciated.

Pencils: Me
Inks: Jamie Snell
Colors: DcJosh

Thanks.

You may want to use the same color "Style" for the logo as you utilized for the cover art. (right now you have a flat "animation style" color used on the art, and a "liquid style" treatment to the logo.) That simple fix on its own might help to "marry" the two elements more.

There seems to be too much negative space on the cover, making the star of the book appear dwarfed by comparison (in relation to the logo). I would try cropping a chunk of the top and the left side of the background. Letting his head overlap on top of the logo, and should help him "pop" more... maybe... it seems cool in my head, but it might suck once you try it out.

Kudos... and best of luck on the book!

I prefer the bottom one. I'd like to see something with the depth of the top one drawn in that style.

Wait there's another image, the cover with the logo. The Logo is too saturated to fit the color scheme of the color. It's good and clear, but too true and intense blue. Try something that's tinted slightly one hue left or right and less saturated. Also, if that's the cover, crop it closer because that composition doesn't at all make me want to buy it. It's drawn very nicely, but says 'adventures of a guy standing in a sewer.' It doesn't tease me with enough of what's inside to open it.

Without knowing anything about the character, I have no idea what he's fishing around in the water with. Is it a swimming pool skimmer/net? The guy looks cool enough, but the cover itself doesn't make me want to buy the comic. A story about a garishly clad sewer cleaner with a tail and Liefeld pouches?

Remember: without a "Marvel" "DC" or "Image" logo on your cover, you're going to need to capture someone on the strength of the cover. To do that you'll need to almost tell a story with that one image.

Like I said - the dude looks cool. The presentation just needs that extra something.

Thanks everyone.

Fresco-glad you like the tail and cape. This is one of my favorite drawings of Grimm. Yeah, I felt that the logo was to different as well but I don't have a working photoshop image to change the colors on it. So, I really don't know how to fix it. I agree 100% though. Where would you crop it? Are you saying to take away from the sides and top? Giving the hero more space? Thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

3'LL_Thanks for commenting. Any suggestion on how I might be able to fix the logo? The person who created it doesn't have a working photoshop file anymore and I have no idea how to fix it in the state it is in. Could you give me some suggestions?

Imboden-You can't tell he is just swinging a staff? Man, you threw Liefeld at me. OUCH. The character is a little more stream lined now. If you look at the second image in the first post you will see what I am talking about. No more pouches. LOL What would you suggest I could do to pump it up? The story actually takes place in the sewer in the second issue. He is a bounty hunter type character that brings in super powered beings. I guess when I first looked at doing to the cover I did it in a way to show some of the story but it must not have worked. I could use some help and I am wide open to suggestions my friend.

Again thanks again everyone. I really appreciate it. Keep it coming.
