Adobe Illustrator CS4

Perhaps it was discussed when I wasn't looking, but I'm curious:

Will CS4 be worth the upgrade where lettering is concerned? If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it. I heard the features have not been released yet, but I was not sure. Either way, they are doing a live web broadcast on the 23rd for anyone wanting to watch... you have to register (take only a couple of seconds):

I dont know about Illustrator. I havent heard enough upgrades to make it worthwhile. I think I will be upgrading photoshop though if the rumor turns out to be true that it has a free rotate canvas option like painter does.

I did read the free rotate canvas is true. But that could be a rumor, too, I guess.

64bit support (a little later for the Mac than for Windows; for Macs, there'll only be the 32bit version initially)

Rendering via the GPU on your graphics card instead of the CPU.

So in other words, incredibly, incredibly worth it if you have a powerful graphics card and tend to run a lot of stuff at once.

Yes. And considering that incredibly powerful graphics card are available in the mid-range price sector for less than $200, it's definitely worth it.

Well, my bad ass graphics card went out and is still broke, and I haven't had the chance or money to buy a new one yet. If CS4 turns out to have a few more cool and usable features than just that, I might get it. We'll see.

At this point I'm not sure what else they could add that would justify a few hundred bucks, you know?

I don't need my graphics processed on some internal card thing. The way it runs now is perfect. I have no issues at all with CS3.

This is an accidental leak on Amazon about InDesign CS4:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...reenshots.html

If this is any indication what to expect in general, CS4 is light years ahead of CS3.

Outputting PDFs especially if you have a lot of complex files set up in INDD and opening/saving 100MB+ files in Photoshop will be much faster via the GPU, and it'll help prevent crashes and freezes because of CPU overload. I'm definitely on board.
