Wowio royalties? Anyone?...

Since I don't want to interrupt the "Wowio Woes" conversation about whatever it's about now, I'd like to ask a more important question--About money.

Has anyone gotten they're royalty payments to date? Or are we all still waiting? What's the likelihood that we'll get paid any time soon? Or, worse case scenario, that we won't be paid anytime in the near future, if at all considering the state of Wowio/Platinum financially?

Nope, nothing yet. Lonestar Press has a countUP clock for the number of days late they are http://lonestarpress.com/ (right now it's 32)

I'm sure everyone will be paid sooner or later, but I wouldn't hold your breathe for a payment any time soon.

It's almost like insult to injury. We'll never have the ability to make money from our webcomics with this kind of ease probably ever again and now we can't even get the money that we did make.

My partner and I only make a couple hundred from GAAK at Wowio in total. But I know folks who made a big chunk of change and they're pissed.

The true insult to injury are the excuses these companies use, and the non communication. It really pisses me off to hear them or their constituants or insiders say something like "well, we're only a MONTH late!, why are they complaining!" --

Im in the same boat, Im owed very little through WOwio, but I know some people who are REALLY REALLY pissed, they are owed quite a bit.

I was told there would be an extra (interest) % for the late payment and that it was going to be announced last Friday. No one mentioned when it actually would be sent. That came and went; I expect that they're in deeper trouble than first let on. Rarely does complete silence from a company equal good tidings. I really think that they need some major overhaul to get Wowio going again.

I’d be curious to know why Platinum bought Wowio out. They must have seen something other than a sinking ship, but right now it’s hard to imagine what that was. Sometimes when a rescuer reaches out to help a drowning man, they get pulled down to the bottom of the sea and they both drown.

I still believe in many of the people in Platinum, not sure what good it will do. Even those at Wowio that I've dealt with have been pretty upfront and honest. They seem sincere...even if they are now sincerely quiet. And no back talk by the lot of you hater Queens.

I wonder why they bought Wowio too, especially if it (like them) was in such trouble. Maybe it was the sheer number of comics that they had access to. Which is still my fear about their involvement with Drunk Duck. That whole panning for gold thing. All they need is one Men in Black sized hit and it's a whole new ballgame for them. Or so it mustseem to them.

And despite all the warnings, folks are still wondering how to get their comics on Wowio. So go figure.

IP's fishing I say. Why the Drunk Duck thing? Why the Contests? Why to bought Wowio?
IP's fishing, I say. They are creating a big net with different lures for doing this.

But Wowio owns nothing, so how is that IP fishing?

But it is a good medium for detecting good IP.

I think that's reaching a bit. Platinum never has had a problem aquiring IP. They can usually buy the rights to comic property for less money than a regular six month option in Hollywood. And they already have Drunk Duck that could fill any need there, Wowio adds nothing in that respect. Already many Wowio books are up on Drunk Duck.

There must be something else, I haven't a clue to what it was though.

Probably is something else. You may ask them about it.
Adquiring is not to detect. When detecting they wil have not problem in fishing/adquiring the IP.
As Dee said:

Which is perfectly fine, it could be a good deal for the creators as well.

As I mentioned, they already have Drunk Duck to fill the detecting need. Why aquire Wowio and it's troubles to duplicate something they already have. I can't see how that would be a good reason in the decision. You don't aquire a second car with upside down loan just to get to work when the one you have (and is paid off) will do the job just fine.

I will definitely ask if I ever get the chance. Sometimes you find out something in the books that isn't readily apparent to the public eye. I'm curious what it was in this case.

Man, does this sound familiar.

A good friend, a really well-known comics industry veteran, has a saying about "Hollywood" and money: "If it's money owed to me, I want it now because it's my money; if I owe it to you, I'll wait as long as possible to pay it because it's my money."

In general, I am deeply offended by accounting and management practices that delay payment to ANYBODY who's owed money and needs it.

What I remain surprised about (but shouldn't be) is publishers who don't realize that we all share stories about who's not paying their bills and should be on the "suspect" list. I'm even more surprised about (but shouldn't be) is publishers who take the ostrich approach to solving their problems, when SIMPLE, reasonable communication will earn a great deal of patience from creators. Actually I'm STUNNED that some publishers don't get this...even when slapped in the face with the results of their misbehavior.

I have a general rule of thumb, "I will call you back in 24 hours or you get to hit me," and I have NEVER had a creator not attempt to work with me when there's a problem to be ironed out. NEVER.

All creators want is fair play, respect, and communication out of a relationship...

...and that some publishers don't understand this is just sad, and, ultimately, suicidal.

Isn't this the corporate mentality coming into play? I know that the train spokeswoman for the accident we had out here in LA quit this weekend after company board members asked her to stop telling the truth. The sad part is that this works time and time again, if you shut up you can limit your liability. It's a product of this corporate environment we've built ourselves.

I'd love to see us take it back and start demanding the truth be told more often and not penalizing those who actually tell it. I don't think publishers are any different from any other company out there, sorry to say.

why not just pull your comic from wowio?

if everyone who is not getting paid did that, that would surely send them a message, no?
