Digital Painting (Again)...
Alright, folks.
For my latest project I'm back at the digital painting. Put about 2 hours or so into this so far. As always I very much appreciate any C&C. I tend to feel a bit directionless with digital painting so I need help from kind folks like yourselves to help keep me on track. Cheers Dis

The face is very well modeled. His shoulders and chest appear to be very low, though.

It's hard to say without knowing what this is for, what your intentions are for the piece. I'll be curious to see how (if) you add color to this, that's something that has thrown me off from time to time in my forays into digital painting.

Newt -- I concur. Updated accordingly.
Tim -- I always work in greyscale first to make sure I get the tones right. Makes it much easier to stick colour over it, I find. Here's a rough experiment I tried out. This may not necessarily make it to the final design. Dis

The hair still looks unfinished and the arms could use some skin tone. Not sure what else to make of it though. Different I guess.

normally when you use the greyscale/ludvigsen method in digital painting lighting needs to be rendered across the entire figure. i see the face given greater depth than the rest of the body - i suggest you render those out more fully before you start colouring them. improvising lighting along the way can be brutal.

Dhyatt - Hair does need finishing, will do that before I'm done. It will hopefully make more sense in the context of the story.
Bakatron - Yeah, the rest of the body needs the same level of light shadow as the face. The colour is an overlay on top of the greyscales, so any inconsistencies can be easily fixed without too much hassle. Skottichan - Richter? Isn't he the guy out of Total Recall? Glad you like it, Skotti. Thanks for taking the time to comment, everyone! Progress! Dis

The face is very nicely modelled, so nicely done that the rest doesn't match the head and that it looks slightly like a poser model - abit lifeless.
It's a strange thing to crit a drawing for having too much form, but the heads done so well that it looks 3D and doesn't fit the drawing. |

Awesome job! It's really starting to take shape and come into it's own. I like what you've done a lot.
