Question

Something that just boggled my mind.. Can a dragon burn itself if it shoots flames too close?

Presumably a dragon could withstand fire at least as hot as its own breath, but that's entirely up to the creator. One could imagine a dragon whose mouth and innards are fireproof, but whose external organs were more sensitive. Generally though, I'd say that a fire-breathing dragon couldn't be burned unless it was heat far greater than it could create on its own. Also, consider there being multiple types of dragons. Take the Dungeons and Dragons varieties... so a red dragon breathes fire, blues lightning, greens poison, blacks acid, yellows scorching air and sand, and whites breathe freezing air. So Reds and Yellows are fire resistant, and you'd imagine blacks and blues have some level of resistance, but white and greens not so much.

In the end, I say it's up to you.
