Freakin Microsoft!

So before I went and bought a new mobo and chip I decided to do a few manual "maybe" tests with my comp. I removed the video card as last time the system ran it ran pretty hot and I did the BioFungus and reset the bios. Everything works great now in so far as I can tell.

Last week I took my hard drive to my brother's to test it and it gave me a "system has changed, windows must be reactivated in 3 days". I figure no big whoop, if I get my comp running it'll be ok. Well I was wrong. Now I can't get to my files or programs because windows is locked out until I get it activated. Thing is I'm pretty sure I lost the cd key. Yes, it is a legal I own copy. I can't believe those bastards would do this to an already registered copy.

Anywho, any help or advice would be helpful and the "you know what" type help can be PMed to me as I figure it's only fair since I own this os.

Is it asking for the CD key? Not all installations do (surprising, I know). You do need to be connected to the internet though, for the activation to go through. You might be able to activate it sans the key (I know I've reformatted, even added new hardware, multiple times on this comp, but the only time I ever had to re-enter the cd key was the first time I formatted it).

I think the U.S. dollar is worth about 3 shillings these days.

It's worth a try going through Microsoft's "offline" activation process (i.e. by phone), especially if you registered. Hopefully they can verify the registration and activate it for you manually.

Wasabe will become famous soon enough
Jam a penny in it and you'll be fine.

That's an old joke from back in the day when we had fuses instead of circuit breakers sonny.
