New free font from Jason...

Yeah, I know, I know...I'm supposed to be doing a sfx font and some other font that I had you guys vote on. But this one came to me last week when someone asked about a typewriter font and it only took me a couple of hours to make it so...

Fantastic -- I've been at least mildly unhappy with all of my typewriter fonts for awhile, but haven't had a need for any, so I never bothered with replacing them.

my pleasure guys.

I like roughing up existing fonts. Easy work. (this was Courier Final Draft)

a suggestion

can i make a suggestion here, jason, even though the font's free?

typewriter keys get misaligned, and also worn down in certain places (due to the particular habits of the typist).

if you're really after verisimilitude, why not move certain characters up or down 100 units or so?

and why not take the letters which are most often used — E, R, S, T, A, I, O for starters — and really distort the heck out of them?

and just for my own learning, how would one access those alternate characters on a Mac?

Great suggestions Clem. I will do that and repost the font. I thought about it while I was designing it and then decided to just finish it real quick (since Luke on here was looking for a typewriter font similar to this), so I rushed this.

On your Mac you should be able to access the alts the same way as the PC crowd. I'm on a Mac so I just hit ALT+ the particular character. The list up above should work for you too.

thanks Clem,

wow! this is HUGE!!

you're telling me that you can access your alternate characters by pressing ALT and the character's key? this is fantastic.

what kind of glyph names do you give these alternates?
