I just receive an e-mail from someone who said he's the artist who did that page. Man I feel sorry for every artist he had or will burned.

But then the bottom panel would be sending the reader back to the previous page with the pushing action.

Cool page though.

Glad to hear that you might have found the guy. I'm still looking for the real artist who drew my pages.

Not only is he trying to pass off art as his own, he also taken credit for writing the script.

Larry965: That's really great! I know these threads about him come up high on the list when you search his name. I just hope everyone does so we can cut off his supply. I just can't believe the audacity of him.

Hey Ibrahim Amin: I hope you'll find the real artist who worked on the pages.

Hey nyx702: My heart goes out to all the artist he had ever burned or will try to burn in the future.

Thank you.

I figure that as I'm going to need an artist one way or the other, I'll just put up a new classified ad. Since that appears to be how Josh was finding artists to con, I might be lucky enough to hear from the guy who drew those pages.

I know one way he gets the artist to come to him, I was going to pay Josh Hoopes $400 for 8 pages a cover and 5 character sketches and Josh told the artist that he was going to paid him $1600 dollars for 8 pages a cover and 5 character sketches. I know this because I was told by the artist.

Larry965: Yea, he told me an outrageous price too...that is why I wanted to work for "him." Classic example of "if it's too good to be true..."

This is an interesting though...the bogus "contract" that I asked him for said I was to do "8 pages a cover and 5 character sketches." I am guessing he reused the same one and just put my name and date in...

That would be funny if it was the same contract I had made up for him and e-mail it over to him on 2/11/08.

I think my part in this scam is finally underwraps. Rich Johnston from Lying In the Gutter has updated the story and has saved the day by sending me a link to the publisher!

http://parasitepublishing.com

I got in contact with them and they said they hired out Atlantis Studios to do the work. Within 30 mins I got a call from Atlantis and they were shocked but very nice about it. I gave them all my source material and process work to prove that I did the work. Things seemed to be going my why and I figured that "Josh" would just gracefully bow out defeated...but...HE WAS FIGHTING IT! He was still trying to convince Atlantis that he did the inking. He said that he would send the "original ink boards" to them. I was communicating with Ibrahim Amin about this and he also mentioned that "Josh" tired that before admitting defeat. As far as I know he never goes though with actually sending them but he uses it to buy time. IF, and that is a big "if," he does I am guessing he is printing out the hi-res images I gave him. If he did send them I suggested to Atlantis that they get the boards wet to see if the ink bleeds/runs. The ink used in even high end printers is still not waterproof whereas most inkers use archival waterproof ink.

Long story short, I got an official contract from Atlantis and “Josh” got the boot.

Moral of the Story: DON’T DO ANY WORK WITHOUT A DEPOSIT and If it sounds too good…it is.

If anyone else gets wind of this guy again or has trouble please keep me informed and we can see what we can do about him.

wouldn't he have been smarter to split it 50/50, instead of jerking an artist once. he could if he scammed 10 people a month, he'd make good money and so would the artists whose work he claims.

greed... it's the new stupid.

Unfortunately, I've had it work against me when I've paid artists up front (full or partial) and had them flake out and disappear.

I'm reluctant to send somebody new any money before they at least send me a sketch.

When I hired Max Velati to work on Lab Bratz , I paid him 6 months in advance, taking a risk. It worked out. 3 years of solid work together.

But I've been burned by others.
