Photoshop plug ins / effects...
Yo yo.
I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I'm looking for a plug in or something for PS CS that will help me create a convincing newspaper print half-tone effect. PS has got a half-tone filter built in, but it's a bit shit, so I was hoping someone might have one a bit more advanced. Cheers Dis

THe black and white or the color half tone?
I ask like i have an answer... I'm really just curious about the same thing myself! I'm particularly frustrated with the B/W halftone filter. I'd like something that creates a true-er half tone... |

I've been doing some poking around on this now...
One idea I happened upon, and it works pretty good, is to convert your image to grayscale (if you havent already) and use the COLOR halftone filter. I tried this out. It works pretty good. the minimum dot diamater is 4 pixels though, so you need to be working at print resolution (300 dpi or better) for it to work well. Anyway i had pretty nice results with this, i might keep looking into it though... Curious about what other people do... |

Found another way... this works really well too!
I would first convert your image to grayscale, getting looking the way you want. Then convert it to BITMAP. Once you do this it will pop open a window that will ask you dpi and method. Set your dpi to whatever you want, and then for method pick halftone screen. From there you'll have to play with the settings a bit to get it how you like it, but I've tried it, and it works pretty well too! |

Mattchee - That first method using colour halftone on the greyscale image works like a charm! Thank you very much!

Also, if you guys are interested, I've got a series of seamless distressed halftones (more like zip-a-tones).
I typically fill an entire page with the pattern and then use the layer mask feature to show and hide the pattern where needed. HERE |
