Nope. That's what wives are for.

(and every other stupid little thing that I never remember because I'm horrible at such things... can remember the layout of every house I've ever been in for more than 15 mins, and I still can't remember the garbage. I'd be in so much trouble without her watching out for me, but I'm never gonna admit to it.)

Nah. Last year they initiated a longer DST period, so in the spring we set the clocks ahead a week earlier than we used to, and in the autumn we set them back a week later than we used to. I don't recall the exact reasoning for doing this, but officially, it was last night

The change was actually three weeks in the spring. On top of the three weeks added back in '87. We now spend only 18 weeks on "standard" time.

The longer Daylight Saving Time is supposed to save (more) energy. Which is what DST did back during WWII when the main use of electricity was for lighting, but these days it accomplishes pretty much nothing in that regard. As far as I can figure, it's main reason for being is to benefit tourism and recreation businesses that make more money with later sunsets in the summer, and Congress went for it so they could look like they were doing something useful. And because they wanted to spoil Halloween by making young kids trick-or-treat while it's still light out.
