On the horizon
Hey everyone, I thought I'd share a project on the horizon with all the wonderful folks on the DW forums. This is a collaborative effort with Jose' Holder (JohJames) and I couldn't be happier with his work. I am so happy in fact that I thought I'd share some of it with my fellow board members. After the images feel free to read the pitch sheet. (edited slightly) the submission is incomplete still but once it's finished We'll be sending it out to some indie publishers and crossing our fingers.
The total package will include: 8 colored pages + cover/ Pitch Sheet ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ""The Scarab" Ongoing With the aid of a mysterious alien artifact, a boy overcomes his paralysis only to discover that with his cure comes a curse. Jason David is paralyzed. He has been since the age of five, when his mother was in a car accident driving him home from school. The paralysis itself was the cause for his parents’ subsequent divorce, leaving Jason, now 13, and his newly divorced mother awkwardly attempting to find normalcy with one another. All this changes when Jason is chosen to be the bearer of the Scarab, a powerful and ancient alien artifact. This object has immediate benefits: perfect health—eliminating his paralysis—and the ability to perform superhuman feats of strength and agility. A protective exoskeleton even forms around him at his choosing. Lost in his newfound freedom, it never occurs to Jason to wonder why he was chosen. We later learn that it's Jason’s innocence that drew the extraterrestrial emissary to him. The Scarab is pure evil, and only innocence can contain it. In fact, it has a nasty habit of killing its caretakers in repeated attempts at freedom. Dodging government agents, alien politics, and the school bully, Jason must find a way to tame the source of his power, all the while ignoring the corrupting influence of the Scarab as it tries to attain its freedom. Jason’s world is one on the edge of titanic changes, changes that, by fate, he is thrust into the center of. Jason is constantly growing and learning, and finds himself in a constant battle against those changes since his very survival is dependent upon staying pure. The changes in store for Jason and the world around him are: The public revelation of (Space left intentionally BLANK) and learning how to stand against such forces. The Scarab is an exploration of Jungian archetypes based in superhuman parable. Many characters are derived from the archetypes of Jungian psychology and the themes are based on Jung’s theories around them. The high-energy illustrations of Jose’ Holder (The Sire/ Comic Book Idol 3) combined with the young protagonist will entice younger readers. Meanwhile, the story will be mature enough for an older audience as well. Fans of Savage Dragon, Invincible, and Green Lantern will enjoy this book. " |

I'm not into that sort of super-hero genre in general...but the art looks great. I'll definitely want to check it out. Nice job.

I am a huge fan of Jose Holder as well. I was so pumped to hear about his getting into CBI. Since we were working on this before CBI it felt good to see other appreciate his work as well as I do. Then again he's so good who wouldn't dig his stuff? As for pitching we'll pitch to Image and Darkhorse (of course) then take a look at Ape, Dynamite, etc. Maybe see if Zuda wants to do something with it if those all fall through. I love the book and the characters and I really want to share this story with others so I hope it gets picked up by someone. Thanks for all the feedback guys keep it coming.

Oh yeah, there will be more pencils, and some other great folks from the DW forums are getting involved on this too. The incredibly talented: Takara, Kizer and Michael Tyler will be providing some pinups/covers. This book is going to be hot! hot! hot!
PS I haven't forgotten about you Mr. Peruzzo. You should have something in your mailbox very shortly. |
