Fall TV casualty: "Viva Laughlin"

CBS has canceled the Hugh Jackman-produced Viva Laughlin after just two episodes, making the musical drama the first scripted show to be axed this season.

I think it's the second cancellation of the fall, after Fox officially dumped the reality series Nashville last week.

Coupling did the same thing a few years back, if I remember correctly. I remember before it aired someone saying, "It picks up, you just have to give it a few episodes."

Granted, I've never heard of this Viva show.

I kind of liked Viva Blackpool, the British show on which this was based.

I actually really liked this. I missed the first episode but watched on the CBS website, then caught the second on the DVR. but they put the show on sunday night it opened late in the season and had virtually no advertising.

How did they expect it to succeed?

it was rumored that is was going to get canceled before it aired... the producers were bitching because CBS did nothing to tell people about the show...

It had potential... but they didn't quite put the right musical numbers in the right places. In the first episode, the first number was fine... it fit, but then they tried to re-create it in the second number and it fell flat.

I think they cut the show off too early. I didn't think it'd survive past the first season, but I certainly thought it would have more than two episodes.

The American version was badly cast, badly acted and ill-conceived. Not a patch on the British original.
