You obviously don't understand the purely evil nature of puppy-kicking. I mean, yeah, a villain could slaughter civilians, destroy governments, foment civil war, or reduce a nation's people to abjection and slavery- but those people might have deserved it! But a sweet, innocent, puppy- only the very evilest, foulest, most soulless villain could hurt a puppy. In fact, many hopeful villains flunk out of villain-training school when subjected to the puppy test.

You know, for all the horrible stuff that's happened in Stephan King's books through the years what scene he got the most hate mail for...? It was one in the Dark Half where the antagonist kicked a dog to death. Heh. People were writing as if he had killed an actual dog!!!

It's a great lesson to writers: Like Newt says, if you want to make somebody really bad, don't have him harm humans....have him hurt defenseless animals (...Slaughterhouse Five anyone...?)
