And the remakes just keep on coming. I don't particularly have an issue with remakes as films in their own right, but it just proves that working with established material is preferable to actually creating from scratch, as far as Hollywood is concerned. Sequels, remakes and adaptations are all we get now.

it can't be cheaper to do re-makes. Unless the characters copyright has lapsed. Maybe they just think it's easier. An already made story and some public recognition in that lots of people remember the original fondly.(As I do)

They make remakes because people go to see them / want them and they make money. No other reason. I've had it with remakes as well, but untill they start tankin' at the box office---

I can't get on board with Keanu as Klaatu, but off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone who might be better. I doubt he'll be able to give it the malevolent edge that Michael Rennie had in the original.

The story of the first movie is so connected to a certain time period and frame of mind in the American culture. I'm sure they'll update it with some heavy handed preachy bullshit and ruin it.
