Heavy Rendered Pencil Panels

The panels below are sections of pages I've assembled in Photoshop for a comic book story I'd written for a publisher. I look forward to expanding the storyline and creating a one-shot from the material. Looking forward to your feedback.More examples to come.

i think they may be too rendered. and i really like heavy rendered works, but these i find kind of hard to make out at first look. perhaps they'll look better in color.

I think this is beautiful work. I like the fact that some of it is hard to make out --it adds to the confusion and sense of urgency.

You can still very clearly tell what is going on in each panel --all the important elements are there.

Thanks, gang. There is, believe it or not, a method to my madness. The material, though large, is meant to be out of focus, as was all of the source material I used. When reshrunk to fit on a comic book page, the squiggly nonesense hopefully tranforms(timely word) to recapture some of the elements I need. The emphasis is more geared toward feel, and less towards clarification. Storytelling, is ofcourse, my main concern.

Thanks, evolver. I'm getting a lot of private posts on the material, so it seems to have hit a good note!

I love the sketchy quality to these. Even though they're just pencil sketches they look like finished illustrations.

These are really well drawn. They remind me a lot of the stuff Arthur Ranson did with Button Man in 2000ad. It did take me a while to work out some of the characters, but I kinda liked that. It's a little like a magic eye, once you get a bit of it, it all falls into place.

I have a quick question: How do you get the pencils to look so dark and sharp, is that done in photoshop?

My pencils always look more grey...

Cheers,

Thanks everyone. These are so much fun to do. Time consuming but satiating.
Dano - I'm hoping they'll stay just as they are before going into print. Perhaps with a little cleaning. But still finished. People here at DW have mentioned that it might not translate well in colour, or colour linework, and I think they're right.
Reese - Thanks again, brother.
Rich - Arthur Ranson? Button Man 2000AD, eh? I'm on it, buddy. Sounds like a Brit? Perhaps a long lost uncle from my old U.K. stomping grounds? Thanks for the education, Rich.
Sevans - Timeless? Like a Barry Manilow timeless? Or a Rolling Stones timeless? Now classic I can do, Sev. Thanks, buddy.

Oh, and check out 3 other posts worth of Heavy Pencils on previous posts.

This work is amazing...each piece has a very powerful illustrative texture to it,
as if each could stand entirely alone. Keep it coming.

Well since I don't like either of them, I'll add in the Beatles or Dead Kennedys.

Joh, Arthur Ranson is awesome. Buttonman was published in 2000AD but the collections were published by kitchen sink press I believe. I really loved those stories. His work is beautiful.
