Microsoft now receiving 2,500 broken 360s per day in UK alone?

icrosoft’s UK repair centre in Havant is now redistributing faulty consoles to foreign repair centres in order to clear an overwhelming backlog and keep up with the 1,500 to 2,500 Xbox 360s arriving at its doors on a daily basis, according to customer reports.

According to Lee Sherman (Gamertag, Toxic Daywalker), who sent us details of his horrible experience, his Xbox 360 had been sent to Prague for repair, which has extended the repair time considerably.

This is the one thing still holding me back from buying a 360.

As it should. You think they'd simply have fixed the issues long ago.

You know, I know these consoles have issues, but I have to ask:

Why are these reports coming now? I mean, sure they came out within the first few months of release, then they basically disappeared. Now it seems because of the PS3, all of a sudden articles about the 360 (and Microsoft's poor state of warranty repair) are flooding the market.

Despite the likely legitimacy of the reports, this still smacks of "see, they're bad too! it's not just us" type propaganda perpetrated by the objective video game media.

Would 2500 a day lead up to a million in one year? I think that'd be 95 percent of systems sold in the UK.

The biggest fault in this report is the nature of the repairs. How many people are f**king up the software upgrade and sending the consoles in to be fixed? It doesn't say that all the consoles are having *hardware* issues. It's like the hypocondriacs going to the doctor for every little thing. I'll bet a large portion of those consoles being sent in could have been resolved by people with patience, contacting competent customer support agents (although that's another potential issue. If a customer support agent isn't familiar enough with the system to talk the customer through a software reset, they too, would just say "send it in").

http://www.micromartltd.co.uk/

XBOX 360 - Micromart has now withdrawn from offering a Repair Service for the dreaded 3 Red Lights fault.

This problem is endemic on the XBox 360 console and the volume has made this repair non-viable.

Other repairs to the XBox 360 are still being supported.

I've never had single problem with mine. A friend says it's just because I bought the cooler when I bought the unit so it's never been overheated. Is that what the three red lights mean?

The only red lights I've ever had was when lightning struck and we lost power for a little while.... all I had to do was turn it off and restart it.

The 3 red lights are hardware failure. 2 lights is overheating.

Me. Three of them. Good to know ya.

They've had all the breathing space possible for an electronic device intended to sit on a shelf. It's on a glass shelf of a three teir piece of furniture. There are not sides, front or a back to the furniture. It's simply 3 glass shelves. The temperature in here is pretty consistent, too. It's my showroom.

Want me to fix your xbox? I'll do it for $50.

Its a simple process really, as long as it follows a certain number code. The main reason for xbox failure seems to be board warping. What happens is the board gets so hot (not enough heat is being released) that the circuit board bends. Thats all fine and dandy, but microsoft gimped out on the solder. They used cheap stuff, and when the board bends, it loosens some of the circuits. The only fix for this is ripping your box apart, removing the heat sinks and the thermal paste, heating the board with a heat gun, in specific parts for about 5-10 minutes, adding new thermal paste (arctic silver works really well) and putting the heat sinks back. It'll work for a while, but its never a permanant fix, and you'll have to do it again later down the road. I've ficed a few boxes myself, and its pretty simple, although a bit long.

If you really want to stop the thing from over heating, send it to microsoft, and they'll add another heat sink to the board. Not only does it help dissapate heat, it also firms the board up a bit.

I've seen hard mods that add a cooling fan, and liquid cooling units to the board. Problem is, there's not enough room for all of that, so the DVD drive has to be placed on the outside of the unit. It sucks, but its a sure fire way to make sure it doesn't break again.
