Maybe he's just napping

New countdown teaser with the Flash. Looks like Bart may be going pretty quick.

The Flash

who knows though, could be trying to throw people off

Nice cover. I honestly do hope Bart bites it. I understand that the Flash mantle is very generational but Bart is such an unlikeable character I can't stand it.

I enjoyed Bart as Impulse/Kid Flash; he was sort of unique in the DC Universe. Then they had to angst him up, and then age him.

DC seems determined to return things to circa 1984, so it wouldn't surprise me if they off Bart and bring back Barry Allen.

I never liked Barry Allen either. I can't stand DC's blander than generic white bread super-heroes. Hal Jordan, Barry Allen, Superman (when he's not All-Star), Batman (when he's presented as an unbeatable force of nature)? Boring, boring, boring.

I might grab the issue just for the cover art.

If the story holds my attention and I start reading Flash again then so be it but Im not getting my hopes up just yet.

The only depiction of Barry Allen I've ever found the least bit interesting was Darwyn Cooke's take on him in New Frontier.

I see DC's move to retro continuity as playing up to the baby boomer fans. With Hal Jordon, Ollie Queen, the Multiverse, etc., etc., all back, how long till Barbara Gordon gets better and becomes Batgirl again? I would have said "never," but it seems more likely. Barry Allen coming back? interesting.

Who was the Flash right before Bart got the mantle last year?

If you get a chance, you definitely should read it. The story gets a bit convoluted in places, but Cooke's characterizations are fantastic -- I particularly like the relationship he creates between Martian Manhunter and King Faraday, and his takes on Wonder Woman and The Flash -- and his art and sense of design are, of course, just as good.

the path dc is headed down boggles the mind...bring back the multiverse, which, to me, is a 'yay!' type decision, but everything is heavy and 'edgy' and death-centered..? it's like the two cancel each other out and you're left with the muddled results. at least marvel, however retarded it might be, sticks to the plan.

Wally held it right up through Infinite Crisis. During OYL Bart laid low, Jay continued to be a hero and supposedly all the other Flashes, including Barry, were alive on an alternate earth. About that time (issue #6) I gave up reading the title and my friend dropped it a month later.

I tried to read New Frontier, but I got about six issues in before I had had enough. It was interesting, but, even though someone had given me the whole set, it wasn't interesting enough to remember to finish it. I think I made it up to the Martian Manhunter trying to hitch a ride back to Mars and getting caught and interrogated.

New Frontier was only six issues.

Well, they were double sized or close to it. If he had the collected, he might have read half and estimated it at six issues.

However...wow. Really? I think New Frontier is the best mainstream superhero story in the last five years.

Of course, Steve hates JFK, so I don't know how he'll take the book.
