By the Hammer of Thor!

God the writing process is a mother.

So how does everyone else get develop their project? Just curious. Me? I write a rough outline of every issue and plot out the issue that way, than over the next few weeks I refine it, by editing it, re-editing it, throwing in new ideas, etc etc etc. I usually just do it on MS Word or Wordpad( I prefer wordpad because I find it more challenging to edit myself and then just go to MS to refine it ) , print out a copy and go over it with a red pen. Then I do character breakdowns, then histories, things I want to write about, things I want the artist to know. Then I write a script and then I write a pitch. So far I'm just started on a new project and I wanna do it by the letter but it's hard not to skip steps y'know.

But yeah, that's how I do it? Anyone have any insight or a different way of getting stuff done?

No set way of doing things.Sometimes i just think of a scene i like and run with that! Some stories seem to just flow effortlessly onto the screen/paper.But I find that rare.

I did a re-write for a publisher- 8000 words three times -they'd even bought some artwork for it. Still got spiked.

Nope. The artwork was by my brother and was a illustration of my main character waving some chaos worshippers severed heads. As it was for Games Workshop they have it in the contract that all the work you create,(all of which of course is set in their warhammer universe) in effect belongs to them once you've been paid and handed it over.

Don't let that put you off though. I understand BOOM studios are producing some Warhammer stuff now so I shall look out for that.

In the end the story just wasn't what they wanted. That's life.

I generally think about arc and movement more then issue. Frankly, I think of an issue more as a unit of length then a unit of story.

I try to get a decent about in terms of characters but if theres too much, that tends to come out in the text rather then the subtext. And, like everyone knows, good dialogue is all about subtext.

Y'know what? Open challenge folks.

Does anyone think that someone can write a twenty two page comic book, using superheroes and basically just have them in their civilian identities, in a bar or a restaurants and just frame twenty two issues on interesting but ultimately inane conversations like people actually have in real life?

I mean, I love conversation. I love lines. I love phrase and turn of phrases. I'm a sucker for stuff like that. So, y'know, I've always wanted to incorporate a one off experience where people can just read and get a peek into..y'know, conversation. Like what do superheroes talk about when they're not on the job?

I'd love to see that.

Bendis has a lot of action in his work now.

I do like his wordy style, but he has a problem with characterization.
