Catwoman - 3d Sketch!

Anyone try Grease Pencil in Blender 2.8? It lets you draw in 3d!

How much setup does that take? Looks great!

Artman, Morganza, thanks for the comments!

As for setup, think of it as photoshop in 3d: draw an image like you would in any 2d drawing program, then deform parts of the drawing in 3d space using basic tools. No 3d modelling required.

Just made an entire city in about 10 minutes:

With this method you can create a library of reusable "models" to finish storyboarding or sequentials in a fraction of the time. If anyone is interested I should have a video tutorial on sale next week.

Thumbs up Noice!

That's a great point. I've been thinking for a while that the old method (penciler, inker etc.) should be overhauled to reflect the new tools that are available. Maybe have a guy who does models and layouts, and someone else who finishes/stylizes? Idk. Worth discussing.

BTW, I think Clip/Manga Studio just released a plug-in or something that helps you integrate models from other programs, you can even add 'bones' to figures so they can be posed.

Hi J E Downing! "The Finisher" has a nice ring to it, maybe I should start updating job titles, lol.

Love clip studio, use it all the time. 3d models really help with backgrounds and difficult poses, and have you seen the latest VR painting apps? Sheesh!

For those interested in learning Blender 2.8, I've started a beginner tutorial series aimed at 2d artists:

Blender 2.8 - Beginner - Lesson 01 - Workspace Tour

The latest version of Blender added some great features for 2d artists and animators so this is a nice time to jump in.
