Batman...Joker, created in clip studio. Been working on creating linework and then painting over it, b&w to greyscale. What do you think?

above is the original, do you prefer one over the other?

Pretty slick.....lean and mean, has a Jim Aparo, Alan Davis vibe, like that you've moved away from the totally black rendering.....

thank you, I really appreciate your comment. its fun to try out some new stuff on my sketches. i grew up on Aparo, for a while before others caught on, he was the 2nd best Batman artist next to Neal Adams. I am a fan of Alan Davis too but both he and Aparo were heavily influenced by Neal Adams who is the bet Batman artist ever. I am trying out the greyscale stuff, i can color but this is a simpler way to try out a more paiinterly look.

The nose and eyebrow ridge cast shadows on the gray scaled background face, shouldn't have gradations, those areas should've stayed crisp like in the b&w version. Btw, the head reminds me of Joe Quesadas work from the 90s.
And batmans lower right leg needs some work.

I love Joe Q and those are really interesting suggestions. i will add that the joker's eyebrows would produce sharper shadows than if he had none. truthfully he did not start out to be the joker but the grin put him there. thanks DCdraw.

both legs are suspect...

...the right leg looks correct but poorly posed

the left leg needs a line, the knee is jutting out ....and the calf is close but too jammed up into the back of the leg......

worth fixing especially if its digital!

Hey Artman, I really like how you painted over that Batman piece, the extra shading really adds extra dimension to your work .

thanks Artloader. I really love doing high contrast b&w art but I am getting a kick out of turning a line drawing into a greyscale painting. i may try using a photo refernce next time to see how it turns out, not sure yet.

Love you B/W approach!

Try to more natural with the inking... Dont go into a sterile direction.
Let your hand run freely and have a fun!

sound advice Metalni, I spent much time trying to draw like my heroes, now I am trying to loosen up and be me. It's a work in progress.
