Battlefield 3 is the best option for FPS.

Best Survival Horror:Alone in the Dark: Inferno give this a go. I like how it setup in episodes. So far that when you load a save it gives a recap of what you did before.
Best JRPG: Valkyria Chronicles or Resonance of Fate
Best fighting game: MVC 3
Best open world adventure: Sleeping Dogs is out next week. Red Dead and Just Cause 2.
Best FPS: Battlefield 3

He asked originally for console exclusives. I know some of them aren't (Fallout, Borderlands, Skyrim/Red Dead). But then on some levels, there aren't always that many worthwhile exclusives.

My experience with Resistance 1 was local co-op, so maybe I have fonder memories of it. Killzone 2 I also got because the demo blew me away, at a time when I HATED FPS games on PS3, so that stuck with me as well.

There was actually quite a bit of story in Borderlands, but it was spread kind of thin. The DLC was good too (and I hate zombies, but even enjoyed "Island of Dr. Ned". In fact, I'd say the Borderlands DLC gave the most bang for the buck out of any game so far (although Fallout 3 is a pretty close second).

The only COD game I have for PS3 is Call of Duty 3 (after MW, they just stayed too expensive, so when I did get MW and MW2, it was for PC on sale). I've tried many budget games, and have enjoyed most of them. Out of all the PS3 games I own, I think I paid full price for maybe three of them. (Final Fantasy XIII, TF: War for Cybertron and Super Street Fighter 4, which was only 36 bucks at release anyway).

I wouldn't consider Valkyria Chronicles "JRPG" (it's very atypical of the genre) but definitely agree it's a must buy. I was SUPER pissed when I found out the sequels were PSP only. F**K!

Hmm Dead Rising (2), Skyrim, Mass Effect series, Just Cause 2, Borderlands, Fallout 3, BF3, Crysis 2, COD, I've played them all as pirated PC games. Good games, but not what I'm looking for. Alone In The Dark I've never played before, but I prefer Alan Wake because the mood and the episodes concept is way better than what I hear about AITD, IMHO. Both PC games are available through torrent as well. I'm looking for special games that actually make me want to buy full price.

For now:
Best Survival Horror: - Silent Hill Downpour? -
Best JRPG: - undecided -
Best fighting game: - waiting for Persona 4 Arena -
Best open world adventure: -undecided, probably Yakuza 4 -
Best FPS: - waiting for Crysis 3 -

Keep the recommendations coming!

If you like Yakuza you might like Sleeping Dogs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xc6DM5KKm0

I would recommend Max Payne 3, a lot of fun.
Kingdom of Amalur is a fun game.
Burnout Paradise is the best car game I have ever played.
For straight up racing Need for Speed The Run is great.
If you are going for Resident Evil, Four is the best option.
Five is not bad for the price you can get it at.
Socom 4 is good for the 3rd person shooter genre.
I would also recommend Journey. It is out on disc later this month.
If you did not play them on Ps2 The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
White Knight Chronicles II is good
Yakuza 5 is coming soon.

I got Shadow of the Colossus. Hated it. Seriously. I was pissed I spent 10 bucks on it. Amalur is fun, but can be VERY frustrating. Basically, you tend to get locked into combos, and almost time an enemy hits you, it's an automatic second or third hit as well, because you recoil so hard from any little hit, it leaves you wide open. And even the biggest enemies tend to be fast swingers (they can usually swing two or three times for your one swing, unless you use the chakram or daggers which are very fast. And a lot of special moves require you to hold the button to charge, which makes them difficult because the enemies can interrupt you with anything, but you can't interrupt them most of the time. The fact that they had to make a special ability wherein you take extra damage, but don't get interrupted is telltale. I still like the game, but damn it pissed me off something fierce.

If you're really interested, Moonie, I've created a list of my games (at least, the disc based games, since I had to get one of those disc organizers to store them).

Dante's Inferno uses shock over gameplay and story.
Enchanted Arms has its moments yet is a very strange game.
Darksiders is as close as you will get to Zelda.
FF 13-2 I could not get any through 13. I hated all the characters and wanted them all to die.

Alright, I think I'll go with Dragon's Dogma for the JRPG section. It essentially is a JRPG right?

Best Survival Horror: - Silent Hill Downpour? -
Best JRPG: Dragon's Dogma
Best fighting game: - waiting for Persona 4 Arena -
Best open world adventure: -undecided, probably Yakuza 4 -
Best FPS: - waiting for Crysis 3 -
