Empowered Wonder Woman with feet of clay. Tracy Morgan as John Stewart.

Hmmm... "He" didn't win the oscar. "They" won the oscar, and his actual input into the script has always been questionable (not saying he didn't contribute, but whenever asked how much, both he and Damon tend to keep quiet on the subject). Also, when the subject of WB wanting Affleck to direct first came up, many of the reports also stated an acting role in the movie as well. But you can't separate his acting and directing. Some people are only actors, and only directors, sure. But pretty much every actor cum director shows a lot of similar features between the two, given their approach towards the script and how they encourage their actors to play their parts. So it has plenty to do with his acting (and again, in the stuff he has done, you can see similarities in how he approaches roles as an actor and as a director, so it is relevant). As for Comix comment, he's referring to your implication that somehow Shia LeBeouf could have gotten the role in Pearl Harbor despite his age. If it was meant to be a joke, it was really out there, so, no reason to insult me on calling it out. |

Do I seriously need to apologize for that little bit of lamejoking? Hmm.
Well, okay. I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry if it offended you or anyone else for that matter. I just couldn't help having a brief feeling of ecstacy when reading the news. It could have been a worse person in the headline. Imagine a McG directed Justice League! Or some indie chick flick guy. The other logical choice would be Zach Snyder, and you know how fanboys react to him. In fact, I was almost content that they would even make a Justice League movie. Even if it suck, like Battleship suck, it would at least still make some kind of money. Also, about the acting role, why not take a look at Gone Baby Gone. Ben Affleck didn't play in that movie, it was his brother Casey Affleck who got the lead role and most critics agree he is leaps beyond his brother in terms of acting. It would be cool if Casey got the lead 'Sam Witwicky'-ish role. As good as his acting is, I still don't think he'd make a good superhero character. |

My back and forth comment was referring to you saying something about Shia Laboeuf in Pearl Harbo(u)r, Bio saying he was too young, and you calling Bio 'Captain Obvious' for pointing that out. It seemed like a petty attack for a mistake YOU made. But like I said, really, it's not a big deal and there are no hard feelings about it - I don't really think I should even complain about it on a forum full of worse nonsense daily. I agree with your stance on Affleck, though I disagree about the effort he puts in to his acting (regarding better scripts and what not). |

Thanks, Comix.
I probably see Ben Affleck almost the same way as I see Rob Liefeld. Does he suck as an artist? Hell yea he draws like shit. But to my surprise, I enjoyed the comics where he actually let other people draw the things he writes. Hawkman was tons better than that Spawn ripoff that Phillip Tan and Tony Daniel did on its first arc. Perhaps this is also the case with Affleck. As long as he doesn't stand in front of the camera, we're in for a good show. |

Who did the Crank movies?
Get that guy. I want to see Martian Manhunter walking up to the camera and giving the audience the finger. |

As for Zach Snyder, I feel his pacing is too frenetic for a JLA movie (and that's going by 300, which as far as I know, is the closest he's come to an ensemble movie), but, we'll see how he handles Superman. Truth be told, I'm starting to think WB is merely trying to drum up some free publicity with this announcement. With barely the teaser for Superman out, and the Batman to be in JLA being unlikely to have any significant relation to Nolan's Batman, they have no reason to put out such a press release, except to get people like ourselves talking. |

If any of you have a better recommendation for the Justice League movie director, I'm all for reading it here along with your reasons. |

Ah, I thought you were comparing something else TO Hawkman, not two renditions thereof.
As for the Justice League movie, I'm still iffy on if it should even be made. I mean, the individual characters in Avengers are popular, but they work very well as an ensemble, and they work well in smaller individual movies. But Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, they're so iconic, it's almost hard to imagine them in the same movie (how do you balance screen time between even those big three, nevermind the fact that there will be others, plus a villain or group of them?) One of the few directors who I will admit I think can balance something like that, would be Quentin Tarantino. But only that aspect of the movie. I hate his story telling and writing and pretty much everything else he does

I don't care what anyone says Michael Bay needs to do a superhero flick. But like Snyder he needs a Nolan type to rein him in. He'd be good for JL because if They base it on the JL 52 Bay's style works best for that if they go the original route well I don't know but maybe the guy who did Star Trek. Too bad John McTierman isn't any good anymore.

It may sound weird but The Transformers 3 is exactly how I imagine a Justice League movie should be in terms of scale and style. It just need a better script that actually makes sense story-wise. The worst thing about Transformers 3 was that the characters were paper cutouts of a robot template, with the exception of Optimus, Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Sentinel.
If DC is going to introduce the whole new DC movie universe starting with the Justice League, I think it's a good route to take. The movie will serve as the Big Bang they need to kickstart that universe alive. Sure, recast may happen somewhere post-JL but the DC heroes can actually benefit for being in the movie even for a split second. It leaves the audience wanting more and highly anticipating whether this character or that character will ever get their own movie. Can you imagine the whole DCU showed up in one movie frame a la a George Perez poster, with some characters so small you need a 1080p Blu-Ray copy of it just to zoom in on that particular curious looking character? That would be so damn awesome. In fact, every Justice League movie should not be just about the Justice League, but a grand DCU crossover event in comic book fashion! |
