Graphic Illustrator Wanted
From: Jamie L. Grace-Alvarado, LWOB
To: Various illustrators Date: June 21, 2012 Due Date: Position will remain open until filled. Re: Call for Applications for Illustration Assignment Introduction Lawyers Without Borders, Inc. (“LWOB”) is an international not-for-profit organization headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. In collaboration with pro bono legal teams, LWOB has published graphic novels on the subjects of electoral rights, inheritance rights and human trafficking. In the coming year, LWOB will be publishing graphic novels on the topics of gender violence, mediation and consensus building. We have worked successfully in the past with one artist and due to potential volume of work are seeking to add one or two additional artists, who are skilled in realistic portrayal of characters, to draw for our educational graphic novels. The lawyers working on our materials all serve pro bono. Our materials are often self-funded or funded by very modest grants. Our artists are therefore asked to charge LWOB at significantly below standard commercial rates for their work. Selection Process If you are interested in being considered to illustrate one or more graphic novels, we ask that you send us the following: 1. An email expressing your interest in participating sent to graphicnovel@lwob.org . Please include your name, address, and a telephone number where you can be reached should we have questions. 2. A final and complete color illustration of your choice of the dialogue below. The exercise will demonstrate to us your artistic style and versatility. The grid template provided below shows the format that we would prefer for your submission. If the grid does not appear below the dialogue, please email query@lwob.org for a pdf version of this solicitation. **Please note that if you do not adhere to the requirements of the selection process, you will not be contacted for the position. Dialogue: Son: I think I know where this is headed, Papa. Father: So you think you know the solution my boy? Tell me, son, what’s the solution that will satisfy both of our good customers? Son: The way I see it Papa, Señora Lupe-Gloria wants all four lemons, but she is really only interested in the lemon peels. And Senor José wants all four lemons, but he is really only interested in the juice. Son: If you pay attention to what they are both interested in, they can both get what they want if we suggest they separate the fruit from the peel! Final Considerations All materials submitted for consideration are the exclusive copyright of the Artist. No work shall be returned unless otherwise requested. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Contact Info: Tel. 860 541 2288 query@lwob.org |
