I'm guessing I'm probably the only person on this forum that has managed to never once see Alien.
I was 14 when i saw Alien and there is one scene that still to this day makes me jump and not because It scares me but it always catches me off guard. I actually try to time when the creature will appear and it never works, just as i think, maybe this isn't the scene Bam!, the alien jumps out. It's the scene where Tom Skerritt is in the tunnels looking for the alien and shutting down all the Tunnels. Nothing like having selected memory to allow yourself to enjoy at least parts of an old flick. I even have one of the original Alien Theater Posters and a Longer thinner version as well. I think they use the longer posters inside the Theaters. Heavy stock paper. Really great Image. Then again I also have the Original Captain America and Superman Posters from way back.

If you have access to the vBulletin member content, you mod the code as per the directions.

If not -- The actual code content is blocked, but they gave us the filename and the action ("remove"). So essentially if you have access to that file, all that needs doing is removing a line of code that checks if the viewer is a memebr of the staff. It'll most likely involve an "if" and the viewer's status. Like "status = admin" or "user != regular_user" or whatever.

I watched this Thursday night, midnight screening. Overall I really liked it; it had plenty of jumps and squirmy bits and it was visually stunning, staying true to the design of the original, whilst introducing new elements and updating old ones.

The whole time I was watching it though something was bothering me and I couldn't quite figure out what. It wasn't until I discussed the film with a friend (who is much better at this sort of critique than me) that I realised what it was; the motives of each character are a complete mystery.

Whether it's David's desire to assist the scientists at any cost, or the female lead neglecting to mention what she left in the medical bay each character seems to have an agenda that is never really revealed and so each feels a little under-developed.

The ending was a little confusing too, as if this is supposed to be a direct prequel to Alien, certain things don't quite line up right. Maybe it's leaving room for a sequel, or maybe it's trying to be a reboot, maybe it's neither of those things.

I liked it a lot, but I'm glad I didn't get into the hype as I think I would have been disappointed.

It's great, visually, but the script needed one heckuva makeover. Some of the dialogue is painfully bad and many of the characters behave like braindead idiots. Not as good as it could have been, but not a bad film either. Great visuals, but average overall.

So Looks like another Blue filtered Fox Shit flick. Did the grit and grime look like it was bought at Needless Marckup? Scott has lost whatever he had. He makes decent flicks but all the crap he did in between his Sci-fi stuff messed up his storytelling abilities.

The movies not perfect, but it is far from a "shit flick". It is still far superior to any other recent scifi movie I can think of.

There isn't any "grit and grime" that wasn't present in Alien. The interior of Prometheus the ship is visually quite similar to the Nostromo; clean and clinical in the crew and science quarters, cold and functional in the cockpit and other work areas.

The planet (also not LV426, another inconsistency from Alien) is a desert planet with a varying weather system, as opposed to the much grittier volcanic-looking LV426 from Alien(s) with its perpetual hurricane winds.

As far as I can see, all of the short-comings stem from the script, so Scott's biggest sin is accepting the script when it wasn't ready. The actors do their best with what they're given and as I've said, Scott seems to achieve what he wanted visually.

Probably not worth getting worked up about it.

I assumed it was LV426 even though they didn't call it that. Was there something that directly indicated it wasn't?

Also, you do see the same sort of storm from Alien as it blows through earlier in the movie. I thought that was a direct correlation LV426.

Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
The biggest holes between movies I noticed were that the Space Jockey wasn't in his chair when the alien burst out of him. The eggs were never present, and in Alien they seemed to have been deliberately put where they were with the "laser mist" over them as some sort of security measure.

I think it was when it shows Prometheus arriving at the planet it refers to it as LV422, or something like that.

My thinking is that there will be further events between Prometheus and Alien. Perhaps Shaw's actions at the end of the film cause the Engineers to return to investigate, find what is there from the end of this film and attempt to weaponise it which again goes tits-up for them with just one ship making it as far as LV426 before crash-landing.

I don't know how they can make a full film out of that, though.

Ah, I missed that.

I had read that Prometheus was intended to be the first in a new trilogy that focuses on Shaw's quest for the creator. If they do make the other two films I wonder if they will continually cut back to LV-223 to see how these things end up on LV-426, or are we just to assume that there are other Engineer structures on there? Interesting.
