I enjoyed the Alien movies (even 3 and 4!) but I have absolutely no interest in seeing this. That being said, I had no interest in seeing "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and I enjoyed the hell out of that last year. So we'll see what happens...

I don't like the marketing so far. It's trying too hard to be Alien. Plus the emphasis on explosions is a sign of trying to drag in guys who like explosions only to have them sit and watch a boring movie.
Ever notice how the zoom effect is used so much when the entire scene being watched is all CGI? Look for it. Too much of it in Avengers but that seems to be Whedon's team stealing from Ironman 1.

I was the same way about RotPotA, but I've been interested in Prometheus since it was first announced. I'm a big Ridley Scott fan, but especially when he is doing sic-fi. I like all of the Alien movies and love a couple of them. I have high hopes for Prometheus and the videos I've seen are leading me to believe it will be a really good movie, but I'll find out for sure on Thursday evening.

Besides, it's kind of fun to see a movie a full week before it releases, and it's free.

That's awesome, Bishop! I hope the movie lives up to your (and my) expectations. I'm a big Alien fan and I'm very much looking forward to Prometheus. It's easily my most anticipated movie of the year and I loved every single trailer, snippet and viral video I've seen so far.

Me too, but I've made a conscious effort to not watch anything the past couple of weeks, since I don't want anything spoiled for me!

The Variety review isn't overly positive. Not overly negative either, mind you.

Reviews weren't overly positive on Alien, and we're horrible for Bladerunner, but I love both of those movies.

And both are considered classics now. Blade Runner is still problematic, though, but Alien is a true classic of its genre. Doesn't mean Prometheus will be, though. Time will tell...

Blade Runner is only problematic because there are like eleven versions of it. It still always ranks at or near the top of all those "Greatest Best Sc-Fi Films Ever of All Time" lists.

I'm guessing I'm probably the only person on this forum that has managed to never once see Alien.

Prometheus was a very good movie, but I predict a LOT of people will hate it.

This isn't really a spoiler since Scott has said this repeatedly, but I know a lot of folks were hoping he was lying:

You can't go in expecting an Alien movie and not walk away disappointed. This sort takes place in the Alien universe, but it does not feature infamous creature.
This movie is more about the Space Jockey, but it definitely has moments that will make you squirm. It really sets up the potential for a whole new series of movies.
