Hi, my name is Carlton Donaghe, and I'm looking for artists who'd be interesting in collaborating on an original short story to be sold as a digital comic.
First I'd like to thank Digital Webbing and all the talented folks who responded to my post a few weeks ago. Because of that project, I have decided to seek out pencil artists/storytellers and finisher/colorists to work on original material. If anyone has seen the "Luther" digital test-comic up at MarkWaid.com, you know what I mean by digital comics. Comics formatted for the digital screen. This is not the same as scanning print comics and putting them online. I'm only interested in doing all-ages material. To show you what I'm after, I've put up two examples: First, I've written a proposal for a line of Marvel Comics and created a pdf of it. Marvel doesn't look at unsolicited proposals, this is merely a description of my vision for Marvel: http://www.zianet.com/donaghe/popart...rtproposal.pdf Second, less ambitious, but with art, I've written a pitch to artists for doing a proposal with the Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Super-Heroes: http://www.zianet.com/donaghe/Saturday/ If you take a look at these, it will give you a good idea where I want to go. Notice that, in the Marvel proposal, I'd like to do a book about Millie the Model. And in the H-B proposal, you'll see how I'd like to blend Atom Ant into Mightor's universe. I want to do more than just super-heroes, and I'm looking for more than one style of art. I'm willing to work with any style of art, as long as it's attractive. I'm working right now with a painter who's style is certainly "out there" (more Van Gogh than Alex Ross), but in its strangeness there is an odd beauty that I find very compelling. While I regret that there is no up-front pay, there will be co-ownership of the property with the penciler, and both artists will be paid a percentage of every sale, from the very first unit sold. The artists will earn a set amount for every unit sold. Every time some purchases a digital comic, the artists together will earn over 50% of the cover price (unless there's a sale). If you are interested, send me a sample of your art. Please understand that I have tried to be very specific about the type of comics I want to do. I don't mind your art style: If it is attractive, I'm in. But I don't want to do kids comics, nor do I want to do adult comics. I want to do comics for all ages. If you send me your samples and you want to work with me, I will tell you the specific business deal, as outlined above. If you don't like the deal, you are under no obligation to continue. Creating commercial artwork is a labor-intensive process, and an artist must be compensated for their work. I apologize that I cannot pay you up front, but if the comic sells, you will be paid. I will also discuss where these comics will be sold, and co-ownership of any story we create together. Heck, I'll even listen to suggestions on how to do it better. Please contact me at carltondonaghe@gmail.com I hope to hear from you. I have gotten to know some great people after my last post, even those who didn't end up working on a project with me. |
