Sketches - Trying a new style...
![]() Do I seem to be improving any, or should I just give up drawing as a lost cause? |

Keep at it... Everyone has to start somewhere... Since I'm not an artist, they only rule I hear from my artists friends is to draw everyday.... Keep drawing... I'm sure some fellow DW artists will chime in here on this...

Draw anything and everything and don't get stuck in one style like just comics, but find as wide a spectrum of art as you can and just draw my gawd, draw til your fingers bleed.

Yeah, it sounds cliche but it's 100% true.
Drawing is like any other skill... you have to always keep at it to really get better and develop your own style. If you're finding yourself unispired, try coming here (or someplace similar) and take a look at what other people are up to. But I think the key is simply to enjoy it. |

don't give up. Practice and study and then practice and study some more. When your done with that...you get the idea. Also don't just look at comic art. Look at classic artist, Architecture, photograoghs, and the world around you. Don't limit yourself to just one thing. Practice with different medium and you will see improvement in all of them.

Don't worry about style yet. That will come later. Right now just draw everything you can(asalready stated) but stay away from comic styles as a beggining. I should be pro by now but I made the mistake of learning from the comics and am having to relearn all my stuff now. Don't make that mistake. Learn your anat to a T and practice faces, shapes, BG, movement etc and then, and only then, start comics oriented stuff. Sure, it always good to fiddle with the comics end but remember you are trying to perfect a trade. You seem to have an excellent work ethic so it shouldn't take long. Good luck.

Drawing is like writing - you need to be doing it as often as possible, every single day, and the improvement will come.

Dude, DON'T STOP DRAWING!
I love your stuff, and if you love doing it, why stop? As someone said earlier, everyone has to start somewhere; I mean, look at my work over-time: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38987634 I have a great saying which I always repeat to myself, 'use what talents you possess, the woods would be silent if no birds sang but those that sang best.' I means, stick with it, even if you're not the best it doesn't matter. If only the best were drawing, there'd be like hardly any comics ever and the industry would die-off. Also, pratice makes perfect and all that.

This looks good, you have a nice curve to the mouth - try to remember the eyes are orbs and curve the lids accordingly. You've gotten such nice contours on this face, giving it depth, that the angular manga eyes look flat and out of place.
