The Authority #1 / Morrison & Ha

....

.........what did I just read?

Seriously, this book will probably turn out to kick crazy amounts of ass and be the first good run since Millar left, but...

..........what did I just read?

I can dig on what Grant is doing. He's taking a step back and re-evaluating the book, seperating this new run from the old widescreen, super action style we've come to expect of the book. Issue was still painfully slow, though!

I was going to go to the Mid-Ohio con this year, and wouldn't you know it something comes up, a few something's. To add to this Gene Ha will be there, his first appearance.

Ha's site.

A lot of fans are ticked 'cause Gene's art is blurred in a lot of the panels/pages of this book. They were going for effect, but I think it would have been better untampered with.

I'll have to see it. I'd probably agree that his art shouldn't have been tampered with.

i liked the book...can't wait to the authority shows up which will probably be next issue...morrison's take on them ought to be interesting...the new wildcats wasn't that bad either...i like lee but i think he's on autopilot nowadays...the poses of his characters have that seen that in another of his books feeling to it...but i'll get the next issue to see where it's going...

I liked the story to this...the sort of science fiction-action movie slant, and the pacing was nice, reminded me of Morrison's Filth story telling...
but man, they shouldn't have tampered with the art...the blurring effect is a little too much...it's the first time I think I've gotten a headache from a comic book.

This issue seems to be all set up, but it still was a bit too slow for my taste. I can't wait until it really gets going. Gene Ha's art is so perfect for team books. It's a shame he's only on it for a few issues.

Jim Lee's still a great artist, but he should never be allowed to do costume designs ever again. Man, anybody read The Intimates. Worst costume designs since, well, since the first WildC.A.T.S. series.

I actually enjoyed this issue way more than I thought I possibly ever should.

Just read it.

Not your typical superhero book from the get go. Reads like a Vertigo story so far. If this was a brand new project and I didn't know anything about the characters or ideas involved I'd drop it just based onthe fact that the cover has two of the main characters and none of the main characters are even in the book. Very misleading to new readers.

I agree withsome of the comments on the art. A lot of blurring that wasn't at all necessary. They did however capture the tone and feel of being underwater at the end. Dark with dim lighting. The colorist needs to be commended highly on this issue.

I do like how they're re-introducing the Authority as a new entity in this new Wildstorm universe. The build-up was good, though I too agree that Gene Ha's artwork should remain untouched.

Actually I've read (probably in Wizard), that this is the Authority's arrival in "the real world". Morrison's supposedly doing an Exiles-esque romp through different universes via the bleed, and their first stop is our Earth. Hence why he was making such a point of including current real world news-bites and references. I'm assuming that they'll be trying to find their way home, and eventually make it back to the Wildstorm-verse with a whole new outlook on life or something equivilent....

I'm planning on picking up atleast the #1's of each of the new WS titles to give 'em a shot. I think I'll stick with Authority for now and see how Morrison handles it, I'm not continuing with Wetworks (even if I do like Portacio's art, for the most part), and I still haven't gotten around to reading Gen 13 #1.

Yup! Awesome idea, as to be expected by Morrison. I can't wait to find out what knocked the Authority out of their orbit, into the bleed and into our world. Must be something badass.

The Carrier being found at the bottom of an ocean is the coolest way I can think of for it to be found. Heh...they thought it was a previously uncharted geological formation because its like 50 miles wide and 20 miles tall.
