Beta Ray --- WIP

Hey All,
I was inspired by all the Beta Ray pics I have been seeing lately...soooo, I have started working on one myself.

I will update the thread as I progress through the sketch. Any crits would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,
Brian

Hey Jaz, thanks. I am plugging away at it as time allows. I have never had any of my work published, so I don't think you've seen anything from me in gameinformer.

I am a programmer by trade. I had a passion for art when I was younger, and then began pouring all my efforts into development work, and stopped drawing and such for about 10 years. I have been slowly pushing myself over the last couple of years in an attempt to get my work to a professional level, with the hope that I can get comfortable enough to take on some illustration work on the side in the next year or so.

Thanks again for takin' a look.

Thanks guys.

I originally wasn't planning on a background, but what the hell...however, I have really struggled with the bg to this point, so any suggestions would be great.

The creature to the right is my take on the Dire Wraith...

Sorry for the width, but I wanted there to be enough detail for crits.

Thanks for looking.

One thing I hate doing is critting on characters I know nothing about, but I think this pic is a good layout/start.
To me their not looking at each other(confrontation?).

Beta sketch and colors work...nice
NICE my man I will look up the characters so I know next time what the xxxx I'm CRITTING... Peace!

I would suggest something behind Beta in order to help show size and proximity to the BG. As it is, the "mountains" or simple ice outcroppings are very small as indicated by Beta's shadow. I would also move Beta's shadow as he isn't on the same plane as the wraith and the wraith is ultimately going to run right by him. Can't wait to see more!

Man I'm liking your stuff more and more. I just really would like to see his red cape pop him off that background. It could put even more motion and and energy to this piece.

Thanks DJ Keawekane.

At this point, I have abandoned this version of the Beta Ray vs Dire Wraith...I was just not feeling the composition, or color scheme...both things I struggle with greatly.

However, I did start another version this morning. I am again struggling with the background, but I am hoping I can begin to sort those issues out.

Please let me know what you think...

Thanks for looking.

Thanks OZ! I may pick it back up at some point, but I have precious little time to spend on art these days, that I try and learn what I can from a peice, and then move on...
